my kitten is litter trained and he likes to go outside when I am at work but, the minute he comes in the house he runs straight over to the litter pan and uses it. I hate litter pans however, I hate messes more and I would love to do away with the pan all together. I don't want to have to worry about having a mess to clean up if I do away with it.

In order to teach my cats to use the bathroom outside, I dumped cat litter on a section of diry in the woods and showed it to them. After a while the cat litter was eaten up by the elements, but the cats continued to use that area for the bathroom. Cats like to dig and cover their stuff, so you really need an area that is dirt for them to adapt to it.

(in case anyone is freaking about the cats being outside - this was in the country, no roads nearby, etc... and the cats slept inside at night.)

I don't think you can do anything about this. Kitty has already been trained that the litter box is where she's supposed to go the bathroom, and you can't simply 'untrain' her.

You could, however, buy a self cleaning little box. These will sweep the offending material into a little compartment in the littler box, which you can easily empty. It also keeps the litter box cleaner longer, so you have less frequent cleaning times. Also eliminates odor.

Good luck, hope this helped!

While i was growing up i had a cat that always went outside. and when it had to go to the bathroom it would cry at the door for some to let it out. I guess some cats use the outdoors and some cats dont. there's nothing you can do about it! dont take the litter box away from him. And learn to deal with litter boxes. most cats use them!

Sounds to me like you have a couple choices then. Leave the cat outside 24/7. Learn to like the cat using a litter box since he is trained. Or get rid of the cat. Simple.

If kitty was trained to use they littler box in side then he will always use it.

Try putting the box out side and see what happens. Or you could sprinkle litter in the yard and train him to go outside this way. Also start feeding him and leaving his water out side...

Make sure you have a collar and your name & address on a tag on him and he has all his shots. Cause if he gets lost you can find him again.

My opion, if you own a cat or dog take care of them. My cats went out but their home was with me. They pottyed in the box in the house. and I loved my pets so cleaning it was not a problem for me....

You don't really understand much about cats and no kitten should be outside without supervision!

Litterboxes are necessary when you have cats - just as taking walks twice a day are essential if you own a dog.

Try to find the kitten a better home.

Cats use litter boxes. If you take it away, he will just use your carpet as a litter box. You shouldn't have gotten a cat if you are too lazy to scoop a litter box once a day.

Yeah, so I'm not even going to start to go on and on about all the dangers that are outside awaiting your cat while you are @ work, and not there to protect him. Try training it to use the toilet. There are training kits that you can by on line. I think they even include a special litterbox that sits on the toilet.
