I am in my early thirties and I remember when my mother would enter a room, men would cease thier talking and say a lady is in the room. Men use to open the door for you. They would give respect to a woman no matter who she was or how she looked. Now men will swear around women, burp, or whatever else. Why is it that men do not give ladies proper respect anymore?

men have this image of what a women should look like in magizines and TV etc.. they think women should have nice boobs and weigh 100 pounds and wear size 0. If they do not fit the desription they really don't care about you however sad that may sound.

do ya think that maybe because you ladies have been hitting us over the head with "equality for women" for the last 40 years or so, so do open the door for men? have the house clean for your man every evening? the type of respect you talk about is a two way street sister.
sorry, I'm in my 30's as well, i always hold doors for my wife, and everyone else for that matter. been married for 9 yrs i never burp or fart around my wife or daughters(does sleeping count?) swearing, that's a little tougher, but i try, when i have free time i do the dishes, and the laundry, even been caught scrubbing the floor. maybe its just the men you date?

Only the jerks have. The real men still treat a lady like a lady. All the guys I work with are all married for 20 years or more. The all respect women. Me I have been married 37 years and was taught by my dad to be respectful. You just need to find the right guy. Keep looking he is out there. When you find him you will know it. Because he will put the others to shame.

There are a ton of different answers to this question, all of them based on personal opinion. My opinion however is this: 20 years ago, there were different rules governing society as a whole. It was expected of a man to give respect to a woman. Men and women were raised in a time where values were different than they are today. In the world today, there's tons of disrespect, not just from men to women, but from women to men, from parents to children, and from children to parents. It takes a very strong parent to raise a child to be respectful in the way we think of it in the world today. As a lady, I have to say that I've seen some women, I can't really call them ladies because a lady earns respect by treating others in a good fashion. However, there are tons of women who are just as bad, sometimes worse than men because they are rebelling in some way shape or form. In my opinion, it's really a question of why people don't respect eachother.
I myself am in the 30 range, and dearly miss it when a gentleman used to open a door for a lady, or refrain from using harsh words in front of her or to her. It's very very rare to find anyone like that today, man or woman. Sometimes I feel lucky if I make it to my front door without getting run over by a teen on a skateboard that yells at me for being in his way!

Is a cultural thing. The world goes faster everyday, people don't seem to have time for courtesy anymore; everyone wants to be first. Women don't care and men don't bother... Now a days...it's like that girl! If you look in the lower economy countries you will find way more courtesy and good manners because people TAKE THE TIME FOR IT, while the richer countries are more advanced in technology and everything else, people get to be more lonely, selfish, etc....

I still have guys open the door for me but rarely to they bite their tongue on the cus words (however I probably curse just as much as the guy does depending on the setting and context) or hold in their burps. In my opinion better to know how they really are up front them have them put on some kind of show to impress me only to have them change later down the road.
my fiance opens the doors for me, carries the heavy groceries in for me or bags if we are out shopping, walks the dogs or pull the car around for me if its raining, doesn't want me walking the dogs late at night and does other stuff like that.

Please refer to some, as some is in all cata-
gories. I am a man, I say Mam, I let a woman
have my seat on the bus if she is standing, I
hold the door open for her if she is coming in
or out of a building, I am polite as a gentleman
should be and I do not cuss. That is why my
wife has been with me for 20 yrs. I will say one
thing though many women do not even say
a simple Thank You when I do act on some
of the gentlemen acts.Last but not least I
RESPECT all women .

Not all of us have lost that ability.
However, many women get offended when guys cease their talking, or open the door for you, or acknowledge your presence when entering a room.

Respect is not dead. I got some tonight. I work with immigrants. and I was talking to one about why some of them oogle girls at any chance they get. I told him it makes me uncofortable in my own skin when they stare like that. He told me has never done that. I asked him what I could do. He said that the other latina girls swear at the guys when they do it. I said, "what do they say?"
However, this guy wouldn't tell me. He very politely said he didn't feel comfortable saying those words to me. He was very sweet.
