Pascal's wager is indeed tired and old. Yes, we're sick of it. What is particularly sad, is that people still buy the idea that they are better "safe than sorry." I feel sorry for those who subscribe to belief in this way, and I've sure seen alot of them in Y!As. They waste their lives, money and energy.

Pascal's Wager was never meant to be any kind of proof of God's existence. It merely shows how the question of God's existence can't simply be dismissed as "unimportant." Pascal used other proofs in an attempt to definitively prove the existence of God.

Don't know about the 3rd grade education part, but I do get tired of Pascal's Wager. I think it's kinda funny, though, when someone writes it out in paragraph form and clearly thinks that they are terribly clever for having thought of it first.

Pascal was an interesting guy though, Jansenite Catholic... Augustinian in some sence as the protestant reformation was...but in the Catholic church

The sad thing is - they don't even know they're using Pascal's wager. They're just regurgitating something they heard from their xian friends and scholars and thought it would be a nifty argument to use.

No, because it makes perfect sense, we applie pascals wager every single day in our lives. I would like to give yu an example now.

You Have probably purchased some sort of insurance- first theft, car and personall liabillity, you name it. Insurance is a multi million dollar buisness. But have you ever stopped to think about the fact that the insurance business is based upon one word, maybe. Think about it, I get my car insured, Im not planing on having an accident and I hope I never do, but Maybe I will and it would be nice to be insured so I dont get "taken to the Bank. I Dont plan on being sick, I dont plann on needing emergency surgery, but I have medical insurance because maybe I will become ill and need the insurance to help me pay the extremely expensive Bill. The word maybe implies the fact that there is a wager to be made, and becuase of the fact that there could be consequences for my actions I choose to err on the side of safety rather than risk it. Think about it, if the pascals wager is so absurd as you say, then why not Just run redlights? Well its obvious that If I chose t run a redlight, then Maybe Im taking a chance of getting killed. Pascals wager is common Logic that we use everyday. Would you rathr it not be so? would you rather I drive carelessly and live carelessy and possibly put myself in danger and possibly dangr society? Of course Not, and Pascals wager is simply an example of How we must realize every action has an apposite and equal reaction and therfore we must choose carfully. So bearing in mind that our saftey and decision making in soceity is largely based upon the word Maybe, and is based upon the abillity of our thinking minds to make sound rational decisions, why is it so absured to consider the fact that "maybe" there coul be a hell? because of the word maybe you will spend thousands of dollars on insurance, because of the word maybe, Our Country is prepared for a Chemical and biological terrorist attack, because of the word Maybe, Every passenger Plane has Oxygen mask and flotaion devices in case of an emergency. Think about it, and here you are walking around in a world in which 150,000 people die every day and you never have taken the tme to consider the eternal security of your soul? Your walking around taking a huge risk of losng your soul every 24 hours. Think about these questions for a moment.....

Have you ever lied (even once--fibs, white lies, etc.)? Ever stolen (anything--the value is irrelevant)? Jesus said, "Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her, has committed adultery already with her in his heart." Have you ever looked with lust? If you have said "Yes" to these three questions, by your own admission, you are a lying, thieving, adulterer at heart; and the BIble say's "he who hates his brother is a murderer." have you ever hated someone? if you have said yes to these three questions, by your own admission your a lying thieving Murderer at heart. If there is eternal Justice you will find yourself standing beofre the Judgement throne of a Holy God who has seen every thought word and deed. Think about it, Nothing you have ever done is Hid from his Holy eyes, and by his very nature he must give you the Justice you deserve. if God gave you Justice, the BIble makes clear you would end up in hell. But theres good news, incredibly good news. God sent His Son to take our punishment: "God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." He was bruised for our iniquities. Jesus then rose from the dead and defeated death.
Your own so-called “goodness” can’t get you into heaven any more than mine could. Jesus is the only way to Heaven. He is the "Door," the only "mediator." There is salvation in no other name. The BIble gives the ultimate challenge to skeptics as yourself. "He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me and he tha loves me shall be loved by my father,and I wil manifest myself to Him." (John 14:21)
In other words, anyone who will repent (turn from sin) and trust in Jesus will be saved, you will know yur sins have been forgiven and that you have eternal life. Not only that, but God will reveal himself to you. This dosent mean you will see angels or hears heavenly voices, rather God wil make you a new creature with new desires to serve him. Either this is true or its not. its up to you to take the challenge, you can take the challenge and find out the truth, our you can spend the rest of your life beliving the BIle is a Hoax and judgement day is a weak fairtell until you face God on Judgement day and find out your wrong. it's simple, it goes back to Pascals wager, you must wager, this is a matter oo your eternal destiny. Choose carefully.
