Not so much. If your dog can get up and down the stairs easily, and is not too old, then it should be perfectly fine. You should watch out a while, though, and make sure that there doesn't appear to be any unease or trouble in getting up and downstairs.
If the dog appears to start having trouble, or there is a long number of stairs and you are worried about Dog, you can always give em' a little lift, and buy a baby gate to block of the stairs when you are not at home. Some people even designate it so that their dogs never go upstairs. This could work for you.

It shouldn't be. Unless your dog has a problem with its back or legs it should be ok to go up and down stairs.

although most dogs do this everyday, you have to be careful with toy breeds. they can go up and down stairs and furnature everyday with ease, but one wrong footing and a leg can break easily, if its a couple steps and your right there, it shouldnt be a problem, but long flights its best to pick them up.

Being a small dog it would be best to block the stairs for her safety and your peace of mind. Otherwise carry her up and down.Don't let her/him run up and down they have small hearts and could get out of breath and die. And we don't want that right...

I don't think so. My chi follows me up and down - I think of it as good exercise.

no, in fact i would think it would be good exercise. If yours is acting like it hurts you may see if there is something wrong w/ its joints or if it has arthritis
