Three months ago, I met a guy and we get along well. Long story short, we ended up having sex. Then he wanted to date me and then he didn't. Things got complicated and we took a break for a few weeks. We reconvened a couple of days ago and had sex again today. Afterwards, he's says, "We can't keep doing this." He thinks I'm going to get attached. He's been saying that ever since we first hooked up and it hasn't happened yet. I don't know why he thinks it's going to happen.
Here's the thing: While we were on a 'break', he started dating some girl and keeps complaining about how she's immature, has nothing going for her, so on and so forth. Now, I'm thinking back to when he wanted to date me and then didn't. Why would he want to date someone who has nothing going for her as opposed to me? We're both in graduate school and get along well - in and outside of the bedroom. I'm curious - why do men date immature women as opposed to mature ones?

A lot of men feel uncomfortable dating women who are their equal. They want to be the dominant person in the relationship, and that's hard to do when their partner is their equal.
Both you and your man are in grad school, which means that you're both smart, successful professionals.
That probably makes him really uncomfortable - so he went out and found a girl who is not as successful as you.
In your relationship, you two are equals, in his other relationship, he's dominant, and the woman is subservient - and a lot more guys than would care to admit it prefer the second type of relationship
Ever wonder why 40 year old men want to date 21 year olds?
Or why male tenured professors want to date female undergrads?

well if your a really mature woman then sometimes its makes it intemadates men. but most date immature because they are easy to get alone with and some are very attractive. manily what am trying to say men and women see diffrent things such as men go for looks and women personality. so if he see a girl she might be immature but since she attractive men date them. but however then the personality thing falls into place like the guy you was talking about and they find out that there immature and leave them alone. funny how that works out. but women go for personality

Some date them to feel younger. Some date them because they know they won't get attached, she's just "Miss Right Now", and easy break for them. Some date them to feel smarter or more superior. But what they all have in common is that men who date immature women basically have self-confidence or self-esteem issues. They want to make themselves feel better, and they figure (conciously or sub-conciously) that it will help.

Maybe he respects you, and just wants to fool around with someone immature. Beats me. All men are not the same, however. Now I know this doesn't help you too much...

As a man, I'd like to ask the same question regarding women dating immature men. If you get a good answer to your question, maybe it works in reverse also for my situation.

I don't know that they do...you're giving 1 example and applying it to men in general...women typically mature faster than men anyway...not sure at what age guys are supposed to "catch up"...
As for your situation, perhaps even though he enjoys spending time with you, and having sex with you, there may be no chemistry (at least on his part) and so no desire to move into anything more serious...
Just a thought...

men date immature women because they are easier to get, they are not willing to wait for the right person, but filling the need to have someone beside them and easy to get into bed..

i hate to break it to you but he is using both of you ladies for sex...her being immature is not the issue..he views her as easy sex..he is afraid you will become attached and want a full time relationship...with her it is sex only..with you it is more than that..

Mainly because they are usually very hot and they tend to be easy to get in bed. They don't tend to talk back
