Quote "After enlisting the aid of several friends, I determined that no verse in the Bible says, "This too shall pass." The phrase comes from an old tale about an Oriental monarch who asked his wise men to come up with a sentence that would suit every occasion, good or bad. Abraham Lincoln once repeated the story and then added this comment concerning "This too shall pass": "How much it expresses! How chastening in the hour of pride! How consoling in the depths of affliction!" "

It's a phrase used in Middle Eastern languages. I have found it most often in the Book of Mormon, but it's also Biblical. There is a joke that we as Mormons like to say, "It came to pass, but it didn't come to stay." That just means, keep your head up and whatever problem or trial you're going through will eventually come to an end. If you want more you can probably read about Middle Eastern language customs in Hugh Nibley's "Lehi in the Desert." Have a happy day.

"And it came to pass" seems to be Biblical and might be similar in meaning.
