8 glasses of water a day is a myth. It was selected as a number that most could relate to. Notice that there is no mention of the amount a glass is. That saying goes about as far as "An apple a day..." The real test is to make sure that your urine has no color and little aroma.

There is no fixed amount that "everyone" should drink.

The whole 8 glasses thing is bogus - this was debunked years ago, but people still keep saying it like it's gospel.

You don't need to drink 8 glasses of water a day. You certainly don't need 1/2 your body weight (in oz.) per day. You don't need ANY arbitrary target amount per day. Drink when you're thirsty. Period!
