As far as I know, only one band of terrorists have tried to attack a cruise ship and failed. I went to Alaska this summer and there was a boat in the water near our ship that didn't have any markings on it and our ship had the coast guard on him in just minutes. Cruise ships are very safe.

There have been a few attacks on cruise liners, but most have been against smaller lines. There are a few notable ones though.
The Achille Lauro was hijacked on 10/7/1985 by the PLF. At one point, they shot & murdered a handicapped American passenger, Leon Klinghoffer, apparently due to his being a Jew.
The City of Poros was attacked on 7/11/1988 by Palestinian terrorists. Nine tourists were murdered.
Several other types of shipping have been attacked, including ferries like SuperFerry 14 in the Philippines, which was the PI's most costly terrorist attack known (unless you count some atrocities committed by the Japanese military in WW2). 116 dead in that one.
The link below has a Wiki link to four terrorist related shipping/cruise liner attacks.

Once you get off the plane to get to your cruise you'll be OK.
The airport is the worst part. Seems you can't bring much of anything in your luggage. Also, there have been occasional "pirates" who have boarded some of the smaller cruise ships. If you are on a huge ship (2000 or so people), you'll be fine. Then of course there are the bad food problems and some people coming back sick. Small risk of that also.

Mother f*ckin' snakes on a mother f*ckin' SHIP?
What next?!?
Pirates are considered terrorists, and there have been some incidents - although not many - of modern-day "pirates" interfering with cruise ships....but.... I think the day we decide to live our lives based on what COULD happen, is the day the terrorists have really won.
Bring me two pina coladas........one for each hand....let's set sail with Captain Morgan...I hope I never reach dry land........
