It's a combination of life stressors that makes a person give in to finding a way to, what's called in the psychology field as 'self-medicating'. A person tries to find a way to get rid of pain/memories/events/thoughts, and the thing that does it are drugs, whether they be in the form of pills, heroin, cocaine, meth, etc.
I know, it's sad, isn't it?

The mental disease of an addiction of any kind is the worst part of any chemical dependency.
It truly a mental disorder. I recovered in 1986 and still to the very day its a daily fight to not change the "addiction" to something else.
I was never a drinker- yet I on occasion will attend AA.... any addiction is an addiction, no matter the drug, food or adrenaline rush of shopping..

well I know that sometimes it's that you take a pain killer or something like that and it makes you feel better. So then they decide, "wow this feels good." Especially when they feel down or depressed they feel that drugs make them feel better not mentally but physically.
I know how it feel, don't worry I'm not a drug addict I'm only 14 and enjoying life. But when I broke my leg real bad they gave me morphine which makes you sleepy and act weird and some people like that feeling like there is no care in the world.
PS: Morphine is a pain killer and it makes you act all funny!!!

Well, it all starts before you know it to be honest. When I was 18 I started smoking cigarettes b/c my boyfriend did...next thing you know I started drinking. Well, one night I got way too drunk to know what I was doing and when someone offered me crank I took it not even thinking about it. Believe it or not I woke up the next day craving it. That's all it took for me to get hooked. Growing up I said I would never do that stuff but when you get messed up with the wrong people you tend to change. After a few months of my crank binge I moved on to Crystal Meth cause Crank just wasn't cuttin' it for me anymore. I was hooked for years until one day I came down hard and saw myself in the mirror for the first time in years. (or so it felt) I looked like a corpse...it was so scary. I thank God everyday for letting me see the light that day. I flushed all the drugs....got rid of all my friends.....started going to church again.....and started my life over in a whole new state. I have been drug free for 4 years now and wow does it feel great! So you see, it's just like anything else .......it creeps up on you before you know it. Just take my word for it and never start taking them. They don't do anything but bring you down.

Doctors are people, they are not perfect. Plenty of doctors smoke. For every drug addict there is another story why.

Because most think they can control the drug when the truth is the drugs control you.
