Does anyone know the benefits of enlisting for the military after college (I just received a MBA). I'm 27 and would like to serve the country and have some help paying back my student loans. I was wondering for someone with a college background, is the pay more or other benefits greater than enlisting straight out of high school?

You can enlist as an officer or enlisted. It's pretty much your choice. But just to let you know, the military will not pay for students loans that were not incurred BEFORE you enlisted. You'll have to pay back the loans you made yourself and not through the GI Bill. For some reason people these days think that if they go in with a degree the miltary will pay it back for them and it's just not true.
The benefits you recieve are the same whether you have a MBA or no degree at all.

Well having college credits will help you with some things if you enlist . First of all you probably will start out as an E3 pfc and not an E-1, however this is minor. Later on as you go for your promotion boards to E5 thru E7 college credis will help you alot by building points. The military promotes these enlisted grades thru a point and slot system. In each year they are going to promote a certain number of e-5's to E-6 and those who have the highest points get the promotion.
What I would suggest you do is to talk to an ROTC recruiter at your college and see what you would have to do to become an officer. If your degree is somthing the Army would desire they may be able to get you into a warrent officer position or possibly OCS (officer candidate school). Don't count on it, but it's somthing to explore before enlisting.

with an MBA you may be qualified to go in as an Officer, although currently the Navy and Air Force are more interested in Hard Science degrees.

BUT the student Loan repayment program is only open to enlisted personnel..they will pay I think up to $60K( I may be worng on that figure) of federal loans(not private ones) over the course of three to 5 years. Additionally, you would be eligible to go in at a higher rank, E3 or perhaps E4(Army, mostly).

You might also qualify for an enlistment bonus as well.

If you got a degree that is compatible with a job in the military, then definitely go for the military. Go as an officer, not enlisted. You get more pay, more perks, more respect. Plus if you work in a field that your degree is in, then you get respected experience. Besides your pay, you get three free meals a day, a paid roof over your head. Give it a go!

hi blg105,

I have family in the army, and i can say with confidence that with an MBA you will easily ebable to get in at an officer position..

The army is recruiting heavily still and dont paln to stop anytime soon..

You would definitely get assistace paying your student laons off..

I would though advise you to consolidate all of your student laosn before doing anything else..

If you carry a single fixed rate loan, it will be easier fo rthe government to give you assistance because there will only be one lender that they have to pay money to...

I work with a compnay called Student Aid Lending.. We arwe a nationwide title IV lender administered by the Department of Education...

We are offering some pretty big rate discounts to graduates who consolidate loans as well.. Some discounts include a full 1% reduction to your rate for on time payments.. Another is .25% reduction for setting up automatic debit for your payments...

If you want more information, feel free to take a look at my profile ans my uyahoo 360 page.. .There is alot iof very helpful information there...

so you have a masters in business. i would stick w/ the business world it pays better and you don't get shot at as often. if you really want to serve our country help find jobs for vets and disabled vets, there will be more coming; for a long time I'm afraid. these people are already highly trained and hard working they wont let you down. even if you have to start your own company to employ them
