It sounds like OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder)
Many people have it to a certain degree or another. It's weird but harmless, unless it interferes with daily life. If these little rituals get in the way of a productive day, I suggest you see a specialist.

It's more common than you think. You have either obsessive-compulsive behavior or Tourette's Syndrome, or both, since the symptoms are somewhat similar. With the former, you feel compelled to do these things, even though you may not want to, or reasonably know that they are weird, but you are driven to do these things, or else you feel very uncomfortable. Does that sound familiar? With Tourette's, it's a little more complicated because that's characterized by tics, compulsive movements of the body that seem to take possession of you. Tics can be blinking of the eyes, nodding of the head, sniffing, mouth movements, or in severe cases, shouting words out loud, even profanity. With Tourettes, you feel you have to do these things or you'll explode.

Now that we've run the gamut of symptoms, let's talk about what can be done. I think the first thing you want to do is go to a neurologist, a doctor who specializes in this particular ailment. It is a nervous disorder, but it doesn't mean you're crazy or strange. There are medications that can control this behavior. Usually, it starts in childhood, gets worse around puberty, and tapers off somewhat during adulthood, but is still present to a lesser degree. The reason I know so much about it, is because one of my precious grandchildren is afflicted with this disorder. However, he is a brilliant student and has many versatile talents. The disorder hasn't affected him adversely, and he has never taken any medications for it except herbal remedies. So I'd suggest seeing a doctor if this really bothers you or affects your daily living. Otherwise, if you can live with it, it will live with you and not be harmful in the ways that really matter. I think yours is mostly compulsive behavior rather than Tourettes, and could be controlled by behavior modification techniques, or by substituting another activity for all the precise bodily movements. Good luck!

It sounds to me like you have obsessive compulsive disorder. People with this disorder have a hard time preventing themselves from doing little "rituals." The rituals are almost automatic. People with OCD get agitated when someone interrupts the behavior. Thebehaviors give the person a feeling of comfort, secuirty and safety. The link below is to the US government site at the National Insititutes of Health, where you will find a lot more information.

Sounds to me like you may have "OCD"...?
"Obsessive Compulsive Disorder".

Symptoms of OCD include:2

Obsessions, which are recurring, unwanted thoughts, ideas, and impulses that interrupt normal thinking and cause anxiety or fear. The thoughts may be sexual or violent or create a concern of illness. Examples include:
Persistent fear of harm to yourself or a loved one.
An excessive need to do things perfectly or correctly.
A fear of contamination.
Compulsions, which are behaviors or rituals that are repeated intentionally to try to control the obsessions. Some people have rituals that are rigid and structured, while others have very complex rituals that change. Examples include:
Washing or checking.
Counting, often while doing another compulsive action, such as hand-washing.
Repeating things or endlessly rearranging items to keep them in perfect alignment.
Hoarding.
Praying.

CHECK IT OUT & GOOD LUCK TO YA!

Why are you strange?
Because you like organization in your life?
Every person does something like this, most of us forget it that we did because it was embarrassing to us as we got older, or we just have so much stress, that we forgot some of the fun-silly things we did when we were children.
Enjoy your youth, stay out of trouble and you might live a long time and watch your grandchildren have grandchildren.
That is my goal.
