Am I legally respondsible for my credit card if they raised my limit without my authorization?

Yes dear. You spent the money. If you objected to the increase you should have called and had them lower it or not spend the money.

Yes. They know you are a good customer now so they are encouraging you to spend more so they have more chance of charging you interest. I have an Amex card and they randomly increase the limit without even telling you! I just sometimes notice on my statement. If you don't want the increase then you can ask them to reduce it.
