The report said that the Pope was considering allowing men who are already married to become Priests. It said nothing about allowing existing Priests to marry.

No, he just called a conference of Bishops to discuss this recent African Bishop and his priests that just recently decided they would marry outside of the Church's rules and they kind of thumbed their nose at the Church and did it anyway so they are going to talk about celibacy and see what is to be done if anything. All of these priests take a vow of celibacy BEFORE they accept the role of priest so they shouldn't be doing that. The clergy in the Protestant religions have just as much of a problem with sexual deviancy as the priests do and they are married so it doesn't really matter. I don't think anything will come of it but, where Pope John Paul II would not even discuss it (to the irkness of others) at least Pope Benedict will discuss it -- then he will turn them down. You can not hold God's feet to the fire like that.

There have been married priests in Catholicism for years. This shows how great the papacy's hypocrisy is. Anglican and a few other denomination's ministers; have been able to become Catholic priests for many years (even if married) and allowed to stay married.

In a sense it is true... http://www.americancatholic.org/Features/DailyNews/todays.asp?date=11/14/2006 Scrool down to the article that says "Pope calls Curia to discuss married priests..." Note that it is mentioned that probably very little will change.

No. That's just the media trying to influence the church. The only place it ever gets discussed is in America because there is a shortage of priests. It isn't a problem in the rest of the world.

not allowing to marry but rather bringing up discussions about marriage prior to becoming a priest and such. ot's not like he's going to openthe doors nad say - all right ya'll start dating ; )
i'm just glad he's starting the discussion. while things will tak a while, maybe it's what is needed. in the bible some of the apostles choose celibacy and others did not.

It will eventually happen I am a Catholic and I think Priests should be able to marry. How do we know that Jesus didnt get married the Bible doesn't mention it, but he still could have.

no - he actually has just reaffirmed some of the Catholic churches medieval positions on policy like not allowing birth control and not practicing gay lifestyles. this guy is too reactionary to allow priests to marry.
