Are you sure you aren't doing any illegal substances like marijuana? It has been known to cause people to hallucinate and have phobias for no reason.

Hi - If you seriously have these symptoms, then no, you are not nuts but I don't believe it is simply a "lacking of serotonin". Yes serotonin could likely be part of your severe anxieties. I would definitely get to a medical doctor and tell him just what you have going through your head. He can help and I doubt you need more than a couple meds and some counseling. No big. Good luck!

I don't think you are insane. We all have things we are frightened of. Yours seem to be affecting your life. Do you have a family doctor you could speak with? Perhaps medication could help (if you are open to that type of treatment). If you don't want to try medication, your doctor could recommend a type of therapy that may help.
If you don't have a family doctor, you could try call a Mental Health Center. They certainly would have someone you could speak with who could recommend a type of treatment that could help you.
The important thing to do is get help before this completely stalls your life. I let depression do that to me. I am recovering now, but feel the need to warm people about letting these problems take over their lives.
Good luck to you. Look in the phone book now and decide who you are going to call in the morning.

Sounds like you're prone to phobias, but hardly insane. No, it's not seratonin, that would make you depressed or manic or bipolar (both manic and depressed). There's a nice book called "The Feeling Good Handbook" by Dr. David Burns that will help you work your way through it.

insane is a strong word, let's say extremely cautious
think of life as two circles, an inner circle and an outer circle (like a dough nut) The inner circle is your circle of influence, your outer circle is you circle of concern. you need to focus on your circle of influence and live within this circle and avoid the circle of concern. circle of influence are those things you can control, the circle of concern are those things you cannot control. the more you live in your circle of influence the happier and easier life can be.
example: I don't like bugs in my house, they concern me, yuk. now how can I live within my circle of influence to take care of that concern, I hire some one to spray, that is all I can influence, now I am focused on routine spraying, hey the concern is not that big a deal. or why do I concern myself with what the guy in line behind thinks about the back of my head, that is a concern all I can control is my circle of influence, so ignore the concern and focus on those thoughts I can influence
go to the web there are good article about the circle of influence and circle of concern

You might be a little crazy, but no more than the rest of us.
If you were truly insane, you wouldn't have the sense to ask.

No, you have some phobias that need to be treated. Talk to your Dr. and have him refer you to someone who can help you. You will get over these fears quickly once you get some help.
