I mean, do they all have an inborn tendency to want to scratch furniture, climb into closets and climb curtains?

Scratching furniture doesn't involve curiosity, it is their instinct to keep their defense weapons in tip top shape.

I have NEVER had a cat that climbed up my curtains although they have gone into the closet, I would assume to find a nice quiet place to curl up and take a nap.

Cats are hunters so curiosity is part of their make up. Yes sometimes cats are "curious to a fault". Haven't you ever heard the saying "curiosity killed the cat"?

Yes, and they also like to try to climb into refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, cupboards and just about any hidey-hole. Be careful they don't try to climb up into the engine area of your car, or climb into a car belonging to someone who is visiting you.
They try to open doors, closets and cabinets. They watch TV and any other animal. Anything that goes into a wastebasket is fair game for a kitten.
They climb screen doors and windows, so they need to have pastic screens replaced by metal ones. If you ahve indoor cats, make a "cat tree" that goes up almost to the ceiling. It will be great fun for all.
Scratching is natural, as they need a way to sharpen their claws.

curious to a fault? no. Cats are territorial, not aggressively so like dogs, but they want to know what is going on in their home.

If there is a comfy spot they will nest in it.
If there is a food smell they will get to it.
If there is a protected spot they will retreat to it.
If there is an unexplored spot in their domain, they will explore it.

Give them all these things and a scratching post, and you will never need to find out what killed *your* cat.

Absolutely. Whenever we bring in groceries, the bags and boxes keep them busy for an hour. My bedroom closet is re-examined every day because I have moved a pair of shoes. They know where everything is and where is was before. Love them for it and make sure they have things to inspect everyday.

I have a very very laid back cat. She doesn't scratch or climb. She just kinda sits around. ;) And she's not overly curious about much.
