I lost forty pounds ("40") on this. Count your calories - EVERY SINGLE ONE. First two weeks do not exceed 1200 calories in a day (just FYI i'm 6'2" and weighed 240) so thats not much. 3rd week kick in exercising and bump it to a mind blowing 1500 calories. Then increase exercising and maintain the 1500 calories for next 4 weeks. You will lose weight like you have never imagined.

Two keys:
1. Saturday Free Day - after two weeks I began taking Saturdays off calling it a "no count" day and would eat whatever I wanted. It worked.

2. Exercise - I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH...if you start exercising running 2-3 miles a day on the tread mill you can get your eating up.

KEY:
If you don't exercise you will be caught in the diet trap. Meaning you will ALWAYS be fighting the diet trap. Lose weight gain weight, etc.

But, if you can run at least 10 miles a week (thats 2 miles 5x a week) and 4 days a week keep your calories under 2000 (thats pretty good) you will live a great life.

I've tried them all (Zone, Atkins, South Beach, etc.). The easiest and best out there is called the 5-Factor Fitness Plan, in a book by Harley Pasternak (link below). You can find it at any bookstore or on Amazon. This guy is a true expert on fitness and diet and is best known as a personal trainer to many well-known celebs who have used his program (Halle Berry, Benjamin Bratt, Angela Bassett, Stephen Dorff, Christian Slater).

I've been following it for the past 3 months and have managed to get below 180 lbs for the first time in almost ten years. I'm also a lot more toned with leaner abs and feel a lot more confident. People also say I look younger, which is great to hear. It's very similar in theory to Body-For-Life by Bill Phillips, but even simpler. You don't need any supplements or fancy foods and there's no calorie counting or food weighing involved. It also allows you to "cheat" once a week. Follow it to the letter and you'll see some solid results.

I think Weight Watchers is the best "diet" out there. But, I would consider it more of a lifestyle change, which is the way you need to think. Diet is more short term, but try to focus on changing your lifestyle! Weight Watchers works because it has a lot of the aspects that make weight loss successful. It focuses on portion control, calorie/carb counting, exercise, and group support. Plus, you can eat ANYTHING (in moderation!) Whatever you choose, good luck!

This is the only diet I could ever stick to. You calculate how many calories you need per day to stay at the same weight and then subtract 500 from that. You get you 5 fruits and veggies a day, your protein and keep track of the calories. Then what ever calories you you have left over you can eat what ever you want.

Follow Canada's Food Guide. It's the best "diet" you can do, and the easiest to follow.

By changing my eating habits to match the food guide, I lost 50lbs in one year, and have kept it off without effort, or excercise. If you excercise you can lose even more weight.

And drink water. A large glass of water before every meal, and nothing but water for the last three hours before bed.

You really don't need to go on a diet, just eat more meals per day to help your body to think you're eating a lot and cut down on the amount you eat at each meal.

A good diet is a diet you can enjoy. You might have to try a few first until you find the one that suits you. Try looking at http://diets.hammocksurvivalguide.com/ It's got masses of articles on dieting.

Eat a well balanced diet...fresh fruits and veggies and lean meat...keep calories around 1500 a day and exercise regulary...

When you hit your goal weight, don't change your eating habits...keep eating healthy, add in the occasional treat, and keep exercising (less is okay for maintenance)...

Good luck!

I would stick to weight Watchers, it is easy, and the counting is simple to stick to, and eating the foods yo ustill want to eat. Just remember, stay only on your numbers.

if you eat an apple before every meal, it fills you up a little so you dont eat as much, and also speeds up your matabolism or something to where you burn the fat from the food faster
