While I do not agree with banning ANY marriages one reason it is being banned is the "religious" aspect placed upon marriage. However this is totally ignoring the ROOTS of marriage to begin with. In the beginning marriage was NOT a relgious entity. It was simply for economics. A father wanting to keep from spending money to raise his daughter to adulthood would offer her hand to anyman who would take her off of his hands. As "humanity" progressed father's began offering "dowrys" to any man who would marry their daughters. These dowrys more often than not consisted of land and lifestock which were highly sought after in ancient times. Sons were more valuable to a family as they could hunt, and go to war where as all women could do (as it was thought in those days) was to cook and clean and bear the children. That is why men often had more than one wife, the more wives the more chances of having sons to carry on the family blood lines. Little by little relgions began to get into the mix and about 2,000 years ago Christianity decided to take over, making the coupling of male and male abhorant. Christianity is the only religion that claims that homosexuality is a sin and an abomonation in the eyes of "God". However it must be pointed out (and quite often to some Christian zealouts) that Christanity is NOT the only religion practiced on this planet even though THEY would like it to be so. I feel that any couple who has remained together through good and bad should be entltied to the same economic benefits as hetro couples do. They are not asking for a relgious ceremony based on Christianity, they are simply looking for a CIVIL union with no religous aspects at all. Just like EVERY hetro couple who has a CIVIL union (that's when you go to the Justice of the Peace). Quite often I can see many similarities between the overly zealous Christian Right and Those Muslim factions that would destroy the rest of the world if they could. Those Muslims want to rid the world of all religous faiths (as well as the humans who beleive in them) other than their own and those who are overly zealous Christians want to rid the world of all other religions but their own.
In the end marriage is a CIVIL union between two people, a contract of partnership. If it makes sense to ban same sex marriages then let's go all the way and ban any contractual partnership that involves two of the same sex. Men would not be able to go into business with men and women would not be able to go into business with women. Or we can simply take religion OUT of the mix.

I believe every adult has the right to make their own decision.
Just because they are "gay", it none of our business. They are wonderful people, just like the most of us. I am not banning that.
What I am banning is marriage was made to be between a man and a woman. Period. Maybe, they can call it something else...
marriage....1. The state of being married. 2. the act of marrying:wedding 3. a close union
married......1. Being husband and wife 2. having a husband or wife. 3.n. a married person.

I agree. People don't have a good reason for banning gay marriage. It would only give same sex couples the same rights straight couples get.

Society has an criminal responsibility to help behaviors that advantages society. If marriage is about love, then society fairly has no think about regulating it when you consider that there are a range of human beings that're in love yet unable to get married (operating example, family individuals who fall in love and commit incest.) We reduce incestual relationships because they have the skill of having children that would have recessive gene subject matters that doesn't be healthful for society. even even as the folk contained in the incestual relationship are literally not likely to have a baby (say 2 brothers, or that one is infertile) then we nonetheless do not enable those to be marriage because it nonetheless emulates a relationship that doesn't be healthful for society. So no, society supported marriage is about help for kids who would come from their coupling (or from different couplings that emulate the married couple) and recognizing that their children are children we want to have in society. Then the question turns into, does gay marriage income society, or does it really income the couple? The jury continues to be out on that. really time will tell to be common no matter if married gay couples would have a lowering of their STD cost or a minimum of a lowering of how they transmit it through the inhabitants. Or no matter if or not they make reliable moms and dads, have self assurance it or not the jury continues to be out on that when you consider that adults raised in gay households have raised severe problems with the practice contained in the perfect few years. i do not help gay marriage, nor do I help incestual marriage. i have self assurance that retaining those issues up as some thing we want in society for others to emulate will finally damage society, so it is totally a lot my agency no matter if human beings experience like society helps them of their selection to stay like that.

It is stupid. I just think the goverment has not right to ban gay marriage. Even though I don't agree with it, if anyone has the right to do it, it should be the church. The next thing you know the government is going to ban interracial marriage. They have too much control over our lives.

I agree with you 100%. Even though I`m completely boy crazy, I still support guy marriage. Most people say because of religion, but in America, religion doesn`t count for anything with the government; we have seperation of church and state. The way I see it is that America is supposed to be a free country where people can live life as they please. I think its wrong to tell people who they may and may not marry.

humans are resistant to change, especially when it comes to long-standing traditions in society..
if gay people want to be married, then i don't see how it hurts straight people.
religious organizations have been the biggest resistors.. they have a book (bible) that says gay is wrong, and they always believe their book, and never question it..
other people are just afraid and feel uncomfortable being around people who are different from them..
only issue i have.. is it right to raise children in a gay family/environment? what consequences, if any, might this lead to?

People are scared of things they don't know of. I'm married too yet I support gay marriage.
Christians hide behind the Bible because they are scared of what they don't know.
Other hide behind the fact that it's not natural.
In 20 years, we're going to look back and think of how stupid we acted towad homosexuals.
