I would go with the Yaris, because that's what I did! I love my little Yaris Sport. It's sporty, but excellent on gas mileage. It's cheap, but it doesn't look or feel cheap. And even though it has a small engine, it doesn't feel that way. I paid less than $17,000 for my fully loaded 2007 Yaris, but even if someone offered me $30,000 for it, I would turn them down.

Prius is a better vehicle while the Yaris is just as bad as the Echo it replaced. The prius is (decently) nice and horribly uncomfortable. Look at something else, prefferebly the Chevy Cobalt or Saturn Aura. The Saturn is considered the best, most reliable, most fun, best looking, best value on the market. After being on the market for months it has already skyrocketed ahead of all other Saturns, and passes the Toyota and CAmry in all classes. Just look at it, you wont regret it. The Cobalt is the top pick for small car, and way more fun while going easy on gas. the Nissan Versa is another good alternative to a Toyota hatch. Last year Toyota had the most recalls, but the media "failed" to notice since millions would stand against them because of thier reputation. These days reputation is nothing, technology advances so fast it cant keep up. For ex: three years ago GM was one of the worst companies, now they have the most top-rated vehicles, and the quality/reliability surpasses Toyota. Honda is still on top of the reliability ratings. Ford also had more recalls than GM and DaimlerChrysler combined, for reasons like exploding engines and wheels falling off. Here is a quote from the Washington Posts review of the Toyota CAmry "one of which is the Chevrolet Malibu, which in my real-world driving experience has been every bit as good and reliable as the much-ballyhooed Camry but has been maligned primarily because it is a Chevrolet". Oddly enough that was an '04 Malibu VS the totally redisigned '07 Camry. Common problems with Toyotas are plastic rattling until it falls off. People then complain that when they take it to the dealer to be fixed they just say "The cars are made with so much plastic its practically impossible to fix" GM is also the worlds fastest growing manufacturer, and that dosent happen by accident. If you do the research you will come up with two options, the Saturn Aura and Chevy Cobalt.

I know I wrote a lot, but please read the entire answer before believing any of your other answers. I would by the prius even though I like the yaris styling better than the prius. If cost is not a factor, get a top of the line prius with the smart key system, nav system, back up camera, leather seats, HID lights, the best hybrid system out there, and etc... If cost is a factor, I'd still get the prius even though its more expensive. Prius is better value and has a lot of features that the yaris doesn't have. The Prius is also qualified as a mid-size car and the yaris a compact. Also, the yaris doesn't even have power windows standard. If you were to get the power window package, it would cost around $18,000 and you could get a base model prius for a little more money, but with a lot more features. The prius is bigger and more fuel efficient and probably safer because it has all the airbags standard(also has traction control standard and electronic stability system as a part of a package). The prius isn't that weak. I live in a hilly area and there are many priuses here that make it uphill just like any 4 cylinder car like the yaris. Toyota provides an 8 year/100,000 mile warranty and many prius batteries last way longer (Even the battery lasts longer than an American car itself). Don't get a camry hybrid because if you are looking to save the environment and/or money, a prius is the way to go. The hybrid in the camry isn't very fuel efficient for a hybrid and at 190hp, it isn't that powerful. It costs way more too. The prius just had a recall for its electronic steering and the all new priuses are fixed. Right now the toyota model I like the best is the rav4. Even though it isn't as fuel efficient as the prius or yaris, it is very fuel efficient for its size and power(4 or 6 cylinder, ~160hp and ~270hp respectively, 4x2 or 4x4). It's also 100% Japanese made. The v6 rav4 has ~270hp under the hood and is still way more fuel efficient and with better emissions than many 4 cylinder American cars. I think yaris is American made and the priuses now are also American made(also camry and other models). The declining reliability of toyotas comes from the American made toyotas. The Japanese just have better work ethic. If you are looking for the most reliable cars, buy the ones made in Japan. No matter what, I'm sure no car company can have better reliability than toyota. American cars have the worst reliability(including GM's, Chrysler group including Mercedes, and Ford's) no matter what. GM cars are badly made and all the companies under the GM and American car corporations just overuse a car chasis and body for too many of their models which make them cheap and low quality. GM and American cars will never exceed toyotas in fuel efficiency, quality, emmisions, and reliability. Toyota cars are getting more powerful than the American and German cars, yet they still have way better fuel efficiency, quality, reliability, style, and are way more aerodynamic(Lexus 460 LS has about 0.26 cd and rav4 has 0.33cd for an suv! That's very aerodynamic. It's more aerodynamic than a golf ball!). I think a BMW 7 series is 0.33cd, comparible to the rav4(an SUV!). Also, 3 years ago, GM cars have worse reliability than toyotas and today are still a lot worse than toyota's. Just pick up any consumer reports magazine or research it in any reliable source! These few years, toyotas have been getting recalls only because many of its models are American made now. Toyota factories in America gave many jobs to Americans, but as a consequence, sacrificed its reliability record. But still, toyota presently has a better reliability record than American cars. Even German cars(BMW, Mercedes, Audi's...) have many electrical problems and poor reliability (the only good thing to German cars are they're just sportier). I'm a proud American, but when it comes to cars, the Japanese win(Even the Korean Hyndai's and Kia's have better reliability than American and German cars.) I not Japanese, yet I love their cars. Japanese trucks are also way more reliable than American trucks (even though many are built in America).

OK if price was no object, I'd get the Camry Hybrid. Yes Camry DOES have a hybrid version for the 2007 model year, and a bunch of those are already on the road. Plus there's a tax rebate for like the first 60k cars. I doubt Toyota sold 60k nationally in the US in like the 3 months it's been out, so go with the Camry Hybrid. Although I didn't like the 02-06 model (design) the new design is awesome and I would say that Camry is Toyota's best car. I mean Camry isn't the bestselling car in the world for the past 12 years for no reason you know. They look awesome, the hybrid interior's top of the line, they're fuel efficient, and they RUN FOREVER!!!! I have a 98 Camry LE that still works as well as new. I believe the Camry hybrid goes for $25k base and gets 43/38 city/highway (EPA) in the US. Get it in Jasper Green...I've seen a few of those and the color's awesome. Anyway get it quickly because there's going to be like a 6 month waitlist for the camry hybrid soon. There IS currently a 6-month waitlist for the prius. And initially (if you don't like it) the trade in value is going to go UP, not down because of the lack of supply and huge demand. By the way I would NEVER, EVER, EVER be caught dead in an American car as they look uninspiring, guzzle gas, and are generally crap. I'd never be caught dead driving an SUV as they, contrary to popular belief, are less safe than sedans, usually look ugly, are hard to park, and heavier, less nimble, less sensitive and less agile than sedans. Besides with sedans the company has more liberties on design, and thus sedans look cooler than SUV's. I hope I covered all the bases here.
No matter which toyota you get you'll be very happy with your decision.

These cars are WORLDS apart. The yaris is great car if you want to spend 14k, but seriously, the Prius is a NICE car. It has loads of room, drives wonderfully, and the resale is amazing.
The Yaris is just too tin canny for me. If I were in that price bracket, I'd be more interested in the Scion xA or the Scion xB, but since you have the funds, move up to the Prius. Power everything, cruise, and a great ride.
But then again, maybe you should go look at them personally and see which you like better.

Hi i am a Toyota sales rep and i would just that you buy the Yaris just because the difference in price and for what you gonna save on gas isn't worth it..your better off buying the yaris at 19000$ then the prius at 30000$ just to get an extra 400kms out of a tank..
Prius= 1200kms per tank
yaris= 800kms per tank

Yaris, because I have an Echo now and love it, and since they don't make it any more, the the Yaris is the replacement, it appeals to me. Nothing against tree huggers, but if you are happy with something, continue the trend!
