ok, i just got in high school and am failing miserably.

Thing is, i'm so used to middle school where getting good grades and studying never needed to go together. And i'v never been forced to study, or have had to study that much.

now when ever i try to study for somthing, i just can't, i read the information but it doesn't register, andf my brain gets a small head ache when i try to. and even when i force myself to, i can't remember anything becaus eof the small head ache....

does anyone know how i can get over this!?

The problem is that you are trying to remember too much at one time.
Break down the main points in point form. I always liked to condense
things down to just a few words, then you can memorize them much
easier. After you do that, you can take the first letter of each item and
make an anagram of it. I would also write the words down several times.
Somehow it would make a better impression in my brain if I did that. I
swear sometimes I could actually see that writing in my brain when I
had to recall it. Try it. Good luck.

All these are good suggestions. But, i'm in grad school and I get that too. What I do is free write, because I need to eventually do a thesis. So, free write abt anything...it may turn into a book. But it will also jump start your brain. If you chapter has summary at the end, then read that and then try again.with reading the chapter

Looks like you've got some good ideas here. My son went through something like that. It took a while, but with practice and knowing it was an investment for his future, he made it. Just remember it's not so much the information they are teaching that you need to know. It's time management and the process of learning that gives you grades that employers look for in a trainable and valuable employee.
Good luck.

You need to relax first, I think you are stressing out. My advice is to calm yourself down first with some tea or soft music. Then you will feel better to study. I sometimes have this problem too. Dont force yourself because that just makes it worse. And turn off tv or anything that will distract, believe it or not but it's quite hard to multitask (doing hw, watching tv, listening to music, etc at the same time). Good luck kiddo!

Yes, it happens all the time...it's called growing.
So take back control.

1. Make sure you're eating a good breakfast, o's and non-fat milk, and lots of fruit and vegetables and protein...add fiber or fiber tablets.
2. Make sure you walk at least 5 minutes a day, and do the stairs 3-5 minutes each day.
3. Practice this - each time you pass a mirror, smile, a big smile because you are starting to take back control of your life and that will please YOU.
4. Now, make a list of what's bugging you....yes something or many things are bugging you, now get them out, and write them down.
5. Make a list of what you want to accomplish, what qualities people have that you admire, and what qualities you have. What places you want to travel, and what books you want to read.
6. Now get that bugging you list and tear it up and throw it away. It served a purposes - to make you realize that the block is because you're stuffing it....and that's stopping you...but no more.
7. As you take back control, everytime you feel blocked, make that "what's bugging me" list again...and you know what to do with it, after it's done!
8. Make sure you're getting enough sleep...that can upset your system.
9. Courses get harder, so that means more study...and more thinking....do you really want school to be easy with no challenge....No ...I didn't think so.
10. Challenge yourself by thinking - what does this teacher like - pop quizes, lots of homework, class participation?????
and give back to each teacher what they emphasize.
11. Go to a good paper/computer supply store and get any cd's (math, english, language etc) that you need to help you study...using the computer in the privacy of your home.

The momentum of school is a challenge...and it's worse if you stay home and think...I'll go back to college...next year...and next year passes...and we get out of the momentum.

So write down what you want out of your life, and as you accomplish those things, cross them off your list.

You have a right to be happy...so go for it.....Only you can make YOU happy.
Education is something no one can ever take from you.....that's from my mother, FLo.

well what i usually do is try to get my mind off of things first. i like to play basketball or workout to let off stress.

as for studying, sometimes music helps. even if you hate classical music id give it a try. if you play it softly you wont realize its there after a while.

and it might sound like the same thing youve always heard, but attitude does matter. if you go into something thinking "wow, this is hard, ill never understand." then you probably won't. just try to build some confidence in yourself and take things one step at a time.

Good luck!

Maybe take a break.

Or, what you might try is another method studying. One of the things that I learned in college is that everyone has their own way to studying.

Maybe you need extra help, it shows the teachers that your willing to work hard to do well, they might be willing to give you brownie points.

I always studied in increment of 20 minutes .. I would study for 20 minutes..take a break for 15 minutes then study for 20 minutes... having those breaks gave me time and kept me from getting frustrated...

Go outside and walk for a while and just breath,it works and make a plan when writing because whenever I get writers block is when I don't make a plan of what Im writing.
