Eat a banana about thirty minutes before running. When you get a cramp, breath out, then push on your muscle and breathe in deeply. This helps get oxygen to the affected muscle.

Are you talking about stitch? If it's just stitch you are talking about... this is how you prevent it: put hand on stomach- then exhale through the mouth twice... automatically after you close your mouth- the air will flow through your nose without you even putting effort into it- your stomach raises... try it (that's how it's supposed to be- most people inhale deeply first with lots of effort- which doesn't really do any good).... by exhaling twice first- you allow the diaphragm to become involved- and automatically you are breathing thoroughly without disturbing the natural way we should be breathing- effortless!.Then continue: exhale-exhale (through mouth) - then inhale (through nose)...1-2- threee ... 1-2- threee you inhale deeper this way and work your diaphragm from the very beginning- instead of only when you are grasping for air at that point of your run when you actually start inhaling deeper- that sudden involvement of the diaphragm (muscle) is what causes a stitch. (which feels like a cramp)

I know that when the body is low on calcium it causes cramps and potassium also. Running causes a lot of people cramps. Try taking a vitamin suppliment with minerals and eat a bananna if you can a little while before running. If it's that bad I'd let the P>E> teacher know how it feels. They really can't push you legally can they? What if your parent wrote a note to let you stop at the point that your cramps kick in? Good luck to you.

Make sure you have enough body fluids, and you got to practice in advance, running a little distance....then when comfy with that, a longer distance etc... might be stomach muscle cramps you get. Oh, before I forget, you gotta do your stretching before the race, strectch your legs, do a few sit-ups to warm up your abs. That should get you through. sigh.... and dont force your breathing, too much or not enough oxygen aint good. Get a running/breathing rythm, and stick with it. A lot of people will pass you at first, then you'll pass em back later while they are exhausted from their sprint. Good luck with the race, hope you win....

Someone once told me when the cramps start, breath in with your nose and expand your stomach, then exhale with your mouth and contract your stomach.

drink lots of water, start drinking water now before the run, and water with you will you run, being able to control your breathing pattern also helps, I find if i loose control of my breathing (like feeling like im going to die cause i cant breath) i get bad stomach cramps, but if you relax, enjoy the run an get yourself into a good breathing rythem, controling your breathing can take lots of practise but it sure helped me with my stomach cramps.

you usually get them from not breathing deep enough when you run, while running make sure you keep a pace and take deep breaths once in a while. what i do is take 3 gulps of water or gatorade and take 10 full breaths. this ought to do it good luck
