Just dress up the same as you would if you were going to attend a Christmas party. The idea is to be dressy but dress warm. Crushed velvet, suede, wool, cashmere, leather are fabrics that would work. Like you're about to attend a church or office job.

If the wedding isn't formal, then a pants suit is more than sufficient. If you would rather wear a skirt/dress and a nice strappy top, you can get a nice shawl to put over your shoulders, since it will be pretty cold in Idaho.

Well, so long as its not traditional, then you do not have much to worry about, right?
I suggest some slacks, preferably brown, and a cute blouse, possibly satin or lace (or both!) just make sure it does not reveal too much and that it is something that you might wear in front of a librarian (I know, random, but it makes you think) and since its cold, some closed toe heels, and a blazer.

Nice black dress pants with a gorgeous shirt and jacket would be tasteful, warm, and fitting for a non-traditional wedding. However if you want to dress up the always-appropriate little black dress works for any occasion!!! Have fun and good luck!!

find out if they are having any type of colour as a base, and work on that, or if not a black/white dress of similar with a smart black jacket (to keep you warm) or even a trouser suit - beige or chocolate brown or plum would be ok for a wedding after all it is a winter wedding
have fun

OOh I just love weddings! They are oodles of fun. You should wear a skirt (a long one if its real cold) its formal yet unformal. Wear a shirt with a flower on it formal yet unformal! Wear high heels, they're good any day.

For an event that isn't formal, dress pants with a pretty shirt is safe - you won't be over dressed and yet it's not casual.
