I was raised Methodist, but am considering converting to Catholicism and have been readin up and attending Mass weekly. Well, I went to a service at the Methodist church today and this girl I know was wearing a Rosary around her neck and I was outraged. She said "many Catholics" wear Rosaries around their necks to put Jesus near their heart or something. I was like WHAT? Never met a Catholic who did. And I showed her that I had a Rosary in my pocket. But anyway this just irked me out so bad because my bet is she doesn't even know how to pray the Rosary or what it stands for. I talked to the Methodist pastor and she agreed, that the girl ought not be wearing the rosary as jewelry. I mean they are PRAYER beads, used for PRAYER. Not pretty jewelry to wear. So do you agree with me? Do any Catholics wear Rosaries?

Heron, in a sense I agree. What I neglected to mention was the first thing out of this girl's mouth was "Because it's very beautiful." And I guess the fact that she's Methodist and not Catholic and like I said probably knows little about it, is what offends me. I would not wear a Star of David or something if I'm not Jewish. The Rosary deserves respect.

Alot of spanish people may wear a Rosary but, they also pray it. Maybe it would have been a good idea to ask her if she wanted to learn how to pray the Rosary? I know what you mean though, it is hard not to get overly protective of our Sacramentals. The Rosary is normally always prayed and not used for jewelry. Some people have them hanging on their rearview mirrors in their car wich I think is o.k. too because they want to advertise who they are because they are proud to be Catholics. I remember one time during Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, a girl came in to the Church and she was wearing a big plastic Rosary around her neck and it was obvious she didn't have a clue what it was and she came up to me and asked me if she could borrow some money and I thought , You crafty thing you. You think you can put that Rosary around your neck and make me think you are a Christian? (Meantime I had seen her at a Bingo game before) Anyway I told her she sure could but, first I thought it was a good idea because she was in such a tight spot, that she get down on her knees with me and do a little praying. It almost killed her but, she did (weather she prayed or not I don't know but she did get on her knees) anyway after about 20 minutes I let her have $10 and she darn near run me over getting out of there. Oh well, wearing Rosaries is definitely not as good as praying them. I have seen her since and she has never mentioned the $10 and neither have I.

I know a lot of Muslims that have prayer beads and I agree with you; it's pretty weird that someone would use something you pray with as jewelry.
But at the same time, I hang my beads on my car's rear-view mirror - that makes it kind of like a decoration. So even though I agree with you, in the end I think it's okay....I guess it's not a sin.

i do not have self assurance that that's interior sound practice and powerful judgement to positioned on a rosary when you're literally not of the catholic faith. many adolescents are doing this because they experience the rosary is only a "fantastically necklace." in spite of the actual shown actuality that I comprehend this isn't why you're saying you set on it, that's sacred and effective to the catholic faith and intensely major to them. I have witness a catholic individual develop into indignant through someone wearing a rosary who replaced into not catholic even as i replaced into contained in the military, they did not like it, got here across it offensive and enable or not it is accepted to that individual and requested them to eliminate it. even as my family individuals isn't catholic, my neice confirmed up at my grandson's b-d party wearing a rosary. she is methodist and after I requested her why, she suggested a pal gave it to her and she or he loved the way it looked. I informed her that she could not positioned on it because she replaced into not catholic and it replaced into like a disrespect to the catholic way. she did not like what I suggested to her, yet i wish I spared her embarrassment contained in the destiny.

I was raised Catholic, but we were not allowed to wear them for ornament...they were as like you said for prayer, treated reverantly; I was disturbed to see them worn as jewelry, but figure if it is on them, it is a reminder to them of what we should portray--Christ. I simply say a peayer when I see it, asking for His love to enter their heart and learn to share Christ with their life and words...hug

I think that we ought to let each person decide for themselves on this matter. If someone is benefitted spiritually by wearing it, then by all means, let them wear it. But if it is just for looks then they should not.

I do and there is not a darn thing anyone can do about it. Mine came from Lourdes and it has a little bottle of holy water in the back of the crucifix, it belonged to my great great Irish Grandmother and she got this French Canadian Priest to bring it back to her from France way way long ago. I've got other Catholic relics of St. Teresa and a really really old religious coin thingy in glass that the Vatican wanted off me as well and I use them as jewelery too. Ha Ha, You can't stop me, they're mine; all mine!!!!!

Its not that big of a deal, its a symbol of religion what does it matter to you whether someone wears it or puts it in their pockets.

Don't put your trust in a religion. Please begin a relationship with God first by turning from your sins and receiving Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. Then God will give you the gift of the Holy Ghost, and then God will direct your path.
