So if the people upstiars smoke inside, is it rude to ask them to get an airfilter? I am getting an air filter. Shouldnt my landlord pay for the air filters since it is him not dealing with the people upstairs smoking inside, which they are not supposed to be. help.

Smokers can sometimes be rude, especially if you ask them politely to smoke somewhere else and they won't, but the stupidity issue is a proven thing.
No smoker is stupid enough to not know what it does to them, and to others around them, but they ARE stupid enough to keep smoking.....
I wish I could help the ones who wanted to quit. I see how much my parents struggle to quit.
Considering your situation, it's a public health issue. If your landlord doesn't so anything about it, take him to court. You'll win.
There are so many laws to protect non-smokers these days, and it's a serious issue.

Have you ever been addicted to anything? Is it possible their bad attitude has something to do with everyone telling them (or inferring that) they are bad people. Not all smokers kill innocent people. Not all smokers smoke near or around other people. Not all smokers smoke in public places. Instead of criticizing them, maybe you could help them to stop? Maybe you could ask them nicely to step a little farther away because it's bothering you. If you are going to assign the label of a killer to a smoker, then you yourself should not drive a car. Exhaust kills innocent people! Or have an alcoholic beverage for that matter; that kills innocent people too. A little advice? If you want people people to listen to you, you have to appeal to their better senses. A person stops listening and becomes defensive when they feel attacked. Write your legislators. Change the law for the better...just don't attack someone else for their actions, no man is perfect.

If they have rented there area and it states on the lease that they cant smoke in there.. fine.. call the landlord and tell him about it.
If you go there yourself and demand they get an air cleaner you will be laughed at or if not worse maybe targeted as a trouble maker.
If it bothers you make your area happy for you.. If they are smoking on a veranda and you sit on the lower veranda you might smell it that way or have windows open if the wind blows in that direction..
But again. If they are aloud to do so .. No one can stop them. If they aren't aloud to do it.. Call the landlord.

If they are not allowed to smoke inside, which is very dangerous and hazardess, then your land lord must do something about it. That's what landlords do. He shouldn't buy an airfilter, he should tell them to stop smoking or move.

Smoke goes up. So I don't think your smelling thier smoke. You should talk to the Landlord about it before you buy anything and want him to pay for it.

I am getting really sick of being discriminated against because I'm a smoker. Okay, you don't like it. Okay, it's probably gonna kill me. If I am in a smoking area and I am there first DO NOT ask me not to smoke, because then you are being a douche. Move somewhere else. They make non-smoking sections for a reason, and outside it's a free damn country.
Anyway, as for your "problem" if smoking indoors is not allowed, tattle on them if you must. Otherwise, mind your own business, because they will likely get pissed at you for butting (worst--pun--ever) in.

well i am a smoker, i would say stupid but more heavily addicted
nevertheless, some centuries ago smoking tobacco counted as healthy especially during the time of the black plaque
it is fact, that many bacteria and viruses die in the mouth of smokers and that smokers have less often flue than non smokers... well when bird flue is threat to mankind, we rude and stupid smokers won´t get it

Talk to your landlord it is his responsibility to enforce rules, and sense he is the owner, his decision is the only one that counts.

talk to the landlord, he would probably be pissed that they are smoking, ask him not to tell that you told!!
