I am looking for quotes about being kind or generous to each, but without ego. I mean the idea of being kind to someonw without the thought of doing it for selfish reasons (ie: "I hope someone is watching me do this kind gesture", "I hopeI look nice by doing this") This concept is seen in Hinduism and other other Eastern religions.

The greatest achievement is selflessness.
The greatest worth is self-mastery.
The greatest quality is seeking to serve others.
The greatest precept is continual awareness.
The greatest medicine is the emptiness of everything.
The greatest action is not conforming with the worlds ways.
The greatest magic is transmuting the passions.
The greatest generosity is non-attachment.
The greatest goodness is a peaceful mind.
The greatest patience is humility.
The greatest effort is not concerned with results.
The greatest meditation is a mind that lets go.
The greatest wisdom is seeing through appearances.

Giving frees us from the familiar territory of our own needs by opening our mind to the unexplained worlds occupied by the needs of others.

Think of giving not as a duty but as a privilege.

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give

"Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give."

"No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave."

"You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you."

Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving. Reach out. Share. Smile. Hug. Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself."

In Hinduism, this concept is known as dharma- doing your duty without thinking of the rewards. If you're looking for quotations pertaining to Hinduism, I suggest finding an English translation of the Bhagavad Gita.

This may be a little too specific, but I heard Billy Graham once say, "If it were a crime to be a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?"
