Famine is different from poverty. Famine mostly has to do with crops dying out and that type of thing. A famine can cause poverty, which is pretty much being poor. When's the last time you've seen a lot of successful crops, besides tobacco, in the Middle East? It's mostly desert. What type of faith most of the population is has nothing to do with famines. It's just the part of world they are in.

I asked some friends a similar question once, but I quoted india instead... my Christian friends told me its the hand of God punishing the people.

I DO NOT believe that at all.

If you take a deeper look, almost every country where the most attained Sages, Saints and Holy People come from have the highest rates of disasters and calamity. I think it is because in the midst of despair and trials, thats when one who is devoted to the Divine will strengthen their faith, strengthen their character and help others too transcend their pain.

Atthe same time, if recorded, their stories become an inspiration and reminder to the future generation on how even a Holy person receives tests and trials from the Divine, what more those of us whom are not pious nor holy?

So famine in Islamic countries or Poverty in Christian countries isn't necessary a bad thing. It could be God's way of seeing if globally people are able to overlook political agendas and SEE the human faces behind the suffering caused by politics, hatefulness and war, and truly SEE the hearts within those faces... that all off us Hindu, Christian, Muslim or Buddhist are just people and EVERY person doesnt want pain, and EVERY person wants happiness

There have been famines in other countries too. We've suffered even here in the United States.... we just have enough money to buy things from other countries when our farmers have problems.

The mass migration of Irish into this country happened due to a potato famine. It's just that so-called third world countries don't have the cash to import food when blight hits.

What famin in the middle east? They grow everything that's grown here. You obviously never been there. You can see the green fields from above. There is no storage of foods there at all.

Poverty is wide spread everywhere in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas, every inhabited Continent. You are just being naive. Some "Muslim" countries are wealthy like Saudi Arabia, Kuwaiti, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emigrates?

For some reason western media like to focus on poor "Muslim" countries and Africa (Which is equally Muslim and Christian) and not Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
