What is Tourretts Syndrome?

Tourette's Syndrome is a nervous system ailment that causes the sufferer to flinch, seize, spit, display various nervous "ticks and twitches", and sometimes (in certain cases) to swear and verbally act out.

My brother was diagnosed with this about 5 years ago. He is 48 now. He was born with oxygen deprivation which led to nerve damage. He has an uncontrollable "tic or twitch" which drives him nuts. He doesn't have the cussing part though. I feel there is a lot about it we don't know. I know this much, It had made his life very difficult. He is on a lot of meds, some help, some don't, or seem to cause other problems. He is very smart and kind. Don't let anyone tell you that because one has this that they are not bright.

Tourettes is a disorder, characterized by tics,
it is childhood-onset, and with medication can progress in a better direction, tourettes may also cause one to lose control at points where normal people would remain calm and colected, this may include cursing, or just plain lashing out.

From what I understand, it's like having seizures in that people with Tourettes can't stop themselves from blurting out noises and swear words, (not JUST swear words, like most people think) and they also have muscle spasms that they can't control.

What I know about it is that it has to do with involuntary muscle contractions that causes you to jerk your head/body without control.
