Hi, I have posted a question before regarding this- I found a small round lump under my right ear at the angle of my jaw- it is hard sometimes and sometimes it is soft. I had a cat scan and my doctor said he thought it looked normal but he wants me to get a second opinion- so he is going to send me to another doc- He did prescribe me antibiotics- and the lump went down just a tad but it is still there and wont go away. I am on my last day of antibiotics so I dont think it is going away. I also have had a cough with mucous and plugged ears for over 3 weeks- and junk up in my nose which I am constantly blowing. The antibiotics did not take this away and I take antihistamines and decongestants EVERY day- doesnt seem to help. I see the doc tomorrow- what should I ask him? Does anyone know what it could be?

ok well the cough is a cold, thats all..I have a lump on the back of my head, it just appeard. I flipped out...omg i have cancer..it wasn't. I went for a cat scan and it turned out just to be a calcium deposit which are nothing. The body does weird thing sometimes and b/c of the world we live in, when we find something that does'nt belong on our body we ...ahhhhh. When the body is trying to get rid of a virus such as a cold, it will create antibodies to help fight it off, think of your body as a mini army, sometimes weird bumps will appear. The fact that b/c u were on an anti-biotic and the lump began to go down automatically cancels out any cancerous tumours, not to say it can't be a tumor but probally not. Your dr with several years of med school under his/her belt said it looked normal, ontop of a cat scan which he said looked normal. I would trust him and try not to worry about it. If your loosing sleep over it, maybe you should go for a 2nd opinion or maybe a biopsy which there painless, it sounds painful but it's nothing...well u feel it, its not pleasurable, but its ok, its quick. Try not to worry.

This is most likely just a "reactive" lymph node. Lymph nodes can become enlarged for a number of reasons. If it is worrysome to you or your doctor, you can have a biopsy done, such as a "fine needle aspiration" biopsy, or FNA. If it is something serious, it would probably continue to grow, so if it's not growing, that's a good sign. Try not to worry. Good luck!
