Hey TCL, I just got off the Pope phone and He said it's not cool to get an abortion but that the hell thing hasn't successfully been established before the College of Cardinals and under reforms and revisions to Catholicism introduced in Vatican Two we'll have to suspend all considerations of an after life with this dimension of an other worldly realm involved. It is still possible to get a Papal Bulle if a direct ascent into heaven is desired or at the very least an indulgence of the Papacy again on a case by case review. So then the hell thing is out but we're still go to go on Purgatory and heaven as well as limbo for the kiddies who didn't get baptized. If You'd like to cross reference this check it out with the Jesuits or the Del Lasalle Brothers, they seem to be the most informed on these matters of ecumenical concerns. All good things to Your door step and a life free from doubt, take care.

Catholics DO NOT believe that people who have abortions will go to hell. Ultimately, that is for God to decide. The decision is between God and that person.

Actually, the church has never confirmed that anyone went to hell. It has confirmed people who have definitely gone to heaven. We don't even know if Hitler's in hell. Most people think so, but no one's seen him there. Maybe he is. The church's teachings are that breaking a mortal sin will lead a soul into perdition. (I'm assuming that's H-E-double hockey sticks.) Abortion's right up there with missing Sunday worship.

the Church offers support groups to women who have been through the pain of an abortion. i'm unclear when you came up with the concept of people who have them will do to hell.... that is NOT taught by the Roman Catholic Church.

Catechism:
2271 - states that is it is gravely contrary to the moral law
2272 - "The Church does not thereby intend to restrict the scope of mercy. rather, she makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreperable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as to the parents and the whole of society."

I'm an atheist but if there was a hell and it was my choice, I'd send any woman who chose her own life over that of her child's to hell for as long as the child would have lived if she had not slaughtered the innocent.

And yes, the church does teach that a woman who does not confess her role in the murder of her unborn has commited mortal sin and will be cut off from the salvation of Jesus by her own choice.

We believe and trust that God is all knowing and capable of making those judgments. Certainly, these are moral sins that seriously jeopardize the relationship with God that we all aspire to attain; however, ultimately those and many other mysteries remain for God to reveal at a time of his choosing.

Until then, patience, understanding, love, justice, penance, contrition, and forgiveness, are encouraged throughout his life's teachings.

i'm not catholic, but i believe if the woman repents of her sin (participating in the murder of a life) she would be saved (that is if she accepts Jesus as her personal Savior) it's her fault just as much as it is the doctor's fault doing the procedure, she had fore-knowledge that when it was all over her baby would be dead. it's just like the law. if you see somebody in a situation and they need help but you just left them alone and they died you would go in just like the person who originally hurt them, for not rendering aid and letting them die. the mother is letting somebody kill her offspring with her consent, just like you let that person die right before your eyes,
ultimately it's up to God to decide

"Do we believe" that's pretty bad. Have you considered making up your own mind, or is blind faith working out well so far? If it helps you, the person having the abortion generally isn't the person doing the 'murdering'. So it'd be the doctor going to hell.
