I think your cat feels for you. I have a cat that would not let me hold her. My husband works on the road and is not home much, 6 years ago I lost my mother and was bereft. I was home alone and cried it seems like forever. At that time my cat would jump up in my lap and touch my face with her little paw. She would put her face right next to mine, and I felt my mothers presence each time she would do this. To this day if I am sad or upset enough to cry the cat will get up in my face and have to TOUCH me. And she does ,physically as well as mentally. Sometimes she is my rock when I need a shoulder to cry on. Love your friend because she loves you with all her being.

I don't know why but they do. When I'm in a bad mood and i cry my cats tend to sorta be there for me. Even though they may not understand completely they still know in a way that something is wrong.

Definitely, cats and dogs are able to sense when someone is upset or something is wrong. They do not know why, but they do know you are upset. It can also upset them and it will show as we know it. Many years ago, I was badly hurt in an accident. I was in horrid pain for weeks and on some very strong pain killers. One day I decided to end my life. I was going to take all the pain pills in one shot. I put out a bowl of food for my cat, Sammie, so she would not go hungry. I knew my parents and friends would check up on me in a couple of days of not hearing from me. Well, Sammie could tell something was wrong. She ate all her food in one shot, drank all her water and then cried for more. Then she kicked the litter out of her litter box. She was telling me she needed me. She was only three years old at the time. I changed my mind, obviously. That was in 1973. Sammie lived to be 18 years old. I buried her in a pet cemetery and on her stone, among other things, I inscribed, "Sammie, my cat; in my darkest hour, she was there." Sammie is dead 18 years now and I still think of her and miss her. Yes, they know what is going on.

Can't think what I could add to the great responses you received. My cat is so sensitive, I learned that if I actually SHOWED my anxieties, she'd throw up from distress. But no matter how close to the vest I keep my feelings, she picks up on them & comes to comfort me. There is nothing like your cat's love. I've often wished people were as sensitive & caring.

Of course! Cats are very sensitive animals, and if you have a strong bond with yours, she knows when something is bothering you. She may not know the specifics, only that you are sad, and she wants to make you feel better. Be grateful you have such a feline friend.

I think she can.
When I'm happy my cat will play with me (tag, chase the hand, run after the string, etc..). When I'm sad or crying my cat will came and comfort me (sit on my lap and rub her head agents my leg). And when I'm angry or want to be left along, she'll stay clear of my path.
So yes I do think your cat knows whats going on.
