Yes they do. I'll bet my life on it. Prior to having indoor only cats I had several females who were all desexed and they would frequently get attacked by tom cats in the area. I have a desexed indoor female now and we have a tom cat that comes around nearly every night calling for her, jumping on our flyscreen windows etc trying to get in. A male will certainly be more attracted to a female in heat but desexed females will still get forecefully mated by toms.
If only more people would be responsible pet owners and desex their pets.

A mixed bag of responses here! HOWEVER. A female cat doesn't have to "ovulate"--be in heat--for a male cat to FLIRT with her. I had two cats, a male & female, spayed & neutered. The female was a little older, & constantly watching to be sure he didn't get outside. She was a long haired calico, absolutely beautiful. Always the "mommy"--except--she was a seductive little rascal, & would lie on her back, pink tummy up & eyes half closed. He'd approach her very, very carefully, & as soon as he got close enough, she'd give him a slap. It was just playful flirting & harmless. Of course they didn't have "sex" as I believe you mean it, but the sexual attraction was there. I've never heard of a male cat trying to have sex with another male, not to say it never happens, but I sure as heck know about DOGS who haven't been neutered & will "hump" ANYTHING! My male cat just backed off like the little gentleman he was. She loved playing this game. & they were like ying & yang, always grooming each other & napping together. He didn't eat for about five days after she died of cancer, (the vet performed surgery without my permission, & sent her home IN SHOCK, with great loss of blood because he was "taking the rest of the day off"--so she died in my bedroom where I'd closed the door & tried to keep her warm. That made it a lot harder for him. I can't remember how long he still looked for her. Actually, male cats CAN'T have sex with a female who has been "fixed." Can't imagine why they'd even try--assuming THEY hadn't been "fixed," what would attract them, I wonder?

Well, the females do not go into heat, so the males will not be attracted to them. But, if there is a female cat nearby that is in heat, the males may turn to any female that is nearby.

The "mounting" behavior that may go on with "fixed" cats is normal. It has nothing to do with mating. The "mounter" is expressing dominance over the "mountee". I have a male cat who does it to other males in my house. He is the old man, and when one of the younger ones gets too impressed with himself, the old guy lets him know who is boss. It sure beats a cat fight, but can be an odd sight.

No, not unless another female is around who is in heat and the smell triggers the male, then they will try to mount anything. One of my male cats tried to mount another one of my male cats when my female was in heat??? Oh well...

Not usually. The hormone that makes females attractive to males is lacking, and the females don't go into heat to call them any more.

Certainly not. the female won't go into heat when she is fixed. therefore no smell to attract a male. and if she is unwilling the tomcat is gonna get a beating. lots of females are like that.
