I was just this morning reading my recent issue of "CatWatch" (Cornell University-College of Veterinary Medicine) in which there was an article on a cat's inability to pass normal amounts or urine (dysuria) & painful urination (stranguria). I'll only quote the last paragraph: "...owners should be aware that anything preventing the flow of urine from an animal's body is an EMERGENCY SITUATION that must be treated immediately. If the blockage is not removed within hours, a cat that is unable to urinate will become very ill & perhaps die." Of course, this could be a bladder infection that can be treated with antibiotics, but mustn't be ignored for ANY length of time. It's good that you noticed; often, the "sand box" is the best indication of your cat's health. I get three different publications monthly, plus the magazine "Cat Fancy" to keep up with things--it's really worth it, along with routine exams by my house call vet.

My cat does the same thing and it is a urinary tract infection. The vet should give her clavamox. I have found that feeding my cat Purina One Special Care for Urinary Tract Health. It hurts her to have this just as a urinary tract infection hurts a human, she really needs to see the vet. Good luck and take care of your furry little friend she is a part of your family and loves you as much as you love her.

oh MY yes, cats can get urinary tract infections. If you've noticed the change, then it's probably been going on for longer than you know. Take the little babe to the vet for a check.

Cat's certainly can have urinary problems.. Some breeds are very drawn to it, my nebelung has had very many bladder infections.. id suggest getting her to the vet, let them know.. they'll probably do a test and give her some meds if it's a urinary tract infection... If there is blood, might even be a kidney infection. Please get her to the vet.

Cats can have urinary problems, expecially older ones. We feed both of my cats specially made food by purina for urinary tract health. Both of them had had infections before we fed them this food, and now they are happy and healthy!! You should take them to the vet for antibiotics...
