Both my cats are freaking out now and I dont know why. I came home from the store and one of my cats was sniffing one of the plastic bags, they usually do this, next thing I know, shes tearing, I mean TEARING around the house with the bag wrapped around her. I didnt see what happened but I have never seen her so scared! She ran up and down the hallway and ran into a chair once, my other cat was observing this and I think got run over once by her. I finally managed to get the bag off of her and there was cat urine in it, that and a couple wet spots on the carpet. She hid under the bed and hissed at me for about 20 minutes, my other cat was hiding in the kitchen and hissing at me too. What happened? Why are they mad at me? What should I do?

The bag wrapped around the cat scared her. The urine was from fear, they do that sometimes when scared. There was probably a BUNCH of fur flying around too - they'll shed bad when they're scared. They were both frightened, probably by the crackling noise the plastic made, and the fact that it 'chased' the cat it was on. Let them be till they calm down, pet them a little more and they should be ok. Don't be surprised if they attack and kill the next bag you bring in, however!

Your second & third answer were right on. I'd like to add--while your situation certainly seems accidental, NEVER allow plastic bags to be accessible to your cats. You know how cats love bags in general, & how curious they are. Your cat could even have gotten smothered if you hadn't been there. Hey, they weren't mad at YOU! They were just scared & will calm down! There's nothing you can "do" in the meantime. Before I had the "brains" to get my kitty a collar with an elastic "release," I heard her yowling, & found the collar all hung up in the wooden dish rack I keep for things that can't be put in the dishwaher; she'd been struggling so hard to get loose, it was all twisted & she COULD have strangled. I had a heck of a time getting the collar off, & she hissed at me, too. She was VERY frightened. Cats don't "blame US" for things that happen like this; they just get hysterical & then put it past them. If YOU had put the bag over her head, that would be another matter! I betcha she'd hold that against you! I know you wouldn't, of course--just mean that sometimes, even when people are being "playful" they can frighten their cats, & in this case, they don't forget. (That's why a lot of cats "leave home"...) Another great difference between cats & dogs--a dog will put up with ANYTHING, but a cat won't. I'm sure all is well by now, but "I" would have been freaked myself!

Your cat got scared, therefore it peed. I mean think about humans sometimes pee themselves when they are scared. The cat hissing is because she is just scared in general. The other cat is just scared as well, the cat instinct is to hiss and hide when scared. Just give them time, and let them relax. They will come out. And act as if nothing has happened.
