I have had my kitty 4 just over a week now and she has always gone in her kitty litter but last night she did on my bed!!!!
Every night I take her to bed with me, was this a wrong thing to do??? Did she poo on my bed coz it was dark....
So I smacked her and made her sleep in the lounge room by herself. Was this wrong?

No... not 'always' wrong. A smack 'can' be good... as long as it's not painful....and is immediate. Cats 'smack' each other all the time... it's their way of communicating.... you're just letting her know that you're alpha cat. But if the smack was too much after the fact... she probably didn't know why you 'smacked' her...so then it's pointless and just useless anger taken out on a kitten.

It might take a little while for a kitten so young to adjust to the litter box. Every once in a while, whether she needs it or not, pick her up and put her in the litter box. She will catch on soon that that's the ONLY place she wants to go. If she continues to go 'outside the box', take her to a vet and have her checked for a possible urinary tract infection. Good luck.

You better change the matress! Cats remember the sense and will start to think thats her litter box. This happened with my mom once! Try cleaning the litter box-and don't leave you kitty in the lounge! she'll be lonely! You can buy or make her a bed or continue sleeping with her. You can also put rugs in the washroom where her litter box is and let her sleep there.

Hope this helps! >x<

1. Don't smack the cat. Cat's are smart, you can yell or even hiss at them (if my cat is doing something wrong & I hiss at him he stops immediately) granted, he's probably thinking; "Why is the crazy lady making odd sounds? I should be careful with the psycho..." *L*
Professional persons tend to say that when animals (cats/dogs) urinate/defecate on your things they are leaving a 'scent marking' to 'show you the way home.
I am not a professional, I think they do it when they are ticked & feeling they are not getting enough attention.
Could also feel that their litter needs changing, some cats are more finicky about that than others.

Maybe she's telling you to change the cat box. Seriously, she's marking the bed as her territory. It means she feels at home with you.
Smacking her, though, is not a good thing.

maybe she was mad at you. i had a friend who's cat would pee on her things when she didn't pay enough attention to her. did you leave her alone for a long time or anything else to make her mad?

i wouldn't have smacked her just held her nose down to it and said "no" firmly. all i have to do is look at my cat and say no in the mad voice and my cat will slink away. but i make sure i pick her up minutes later and give her lovin. but i'm not sure what the cat experts say to do.
