I wouldn't get another female because of the pecking order.

All I can say is one dog is like an only child. It's one and everything is easier. finding someone to take care if you leave is easier, less barking, they feed on each other as far as barking goes, they get into things that one alone won't do, so, it is up to you. If you have the room, energy and time than go for it. i just know when I sit my daughters dog that makes two in the house and they are a mess, then if I get her two for a day or two that makes three and I'm done in. so, the more dogs is not always the merier, and these are small breeds. But, Good luck to you if you are young and it's your thing.

If you have a female get a male for a companion.
If you have two of the same sex you can have bad fights between the two. Same sex aggression is common among dogs and sometimes females are worse than two males.
With one of each they may fight right off the bat to establish who is the dominant one and after that things should be fine.
Feed them seperately at first to make sure they do not fight over food.
And be careful when ginving treats and with toys as those can casue fights as well.
Good luck and I am sure your dog will learn to love her new companion.

Dogs are pack animals with a hierarchical system. In your dog's mind, your son is lower in status to her, so if she's behaving like this towards him then it's quite possible she could attack him at some stage. Basically, she has to learn that she is at the bottom of the pack - not the top, as she seems to think now. Maybe you should get the help of a professional dog trainer before something happens, or get rid of the dog.

Yes, carefully supervise the introduction and watch them carefully when they are together for a while. I would advise a male if you have a female. It is usually much harder to have 2 dogs of the same gender. It you have a male and a female and both are nuetered/spayed than you should be fine.

With 2 females you often have a problem with them fighting, wanting to establish the alpha female. In my experience, females are far worse with that then males. If I was going to get another one, I would get a male.

My experience has been that 2 animals of the same sex will have problems. IMO, I would get the male lab and make sure they are both spayed and neutered.

She'll appreciate the companion. The male will have a much higher energy level than the female, so keep that in mind.

Not really. They probably won't get along at first. They have to figure out who's boss. After that they'll be best friends. Labs are great with other dogs.
