You WILL screw it up if you try to do it without the help of someone who DOES know what they are doing! I suggest you explain to your friend that you have been counting on her and that you even have all the supplies and that you feel she's letting you down.

If that doesn't help get her motivated, then go to the school where she's going and just pay them to do it for you. Don't say a word about the possibility of her helping you because that may get her in trouble.

In other words, if she won't/can't help you, then go to a professional so your hair won't get ruined. Can YOU say, "Rod Rows"??? That's what you can get if not wrapped correctly. They occure right next to your scalp and cause the hair to break off in ...well,...ROWS!...right next to your scalp.

I think if you never roll up your hair before and you are getting a perm you will mess up your hair. You need to have someone show you the correct way to do this or the curl pattern will be ruined and then you will not like the way the perm turned out. I can tell you but it will be better if you can see how to do it.

My grandma can wrap her own.. I find them a ***** to do personally. You straight with a freshly shampooed head using a good stripping shampoo, then you section them off according to the length and width of the rods.. Honestly you would be better off going to a BEAUTY school..there teachers supervise and the girls are alittle more likely not to screw it up then you would at home. If you miss a spot or two you will have straight limp hair hanging around those marvelous curls.. you could end up with strange parts in the hair from wrapping the wrong pattern and so on.. Bonne Chance! Your gonna need it if you attempt it yourself..

I wouldnt go there if I were you. The money is worth spending if you really want a perm. And after you see how long they last you will agree. Save the money and pay some one or risk getting burnt.
