A couple of theories abound. One states that it is caused by humans dumping a lot of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere (CO2, etc.). Another states that it is simply the cycle of the earth creating climate changes similar to the one that caused the last ice age.
No one really knows.

The rise in the temperatures on the surface of the earth is called as global warming. Due to the activities made by the mankind the earth is getting polluted in every aspect. Man is thinking that industrialisation is only the way but the industries are making a lot of pollution due to which the carbondioxide and methane content in our environment is getting at it's peak. This high levels of green house gases causes the ozone depletion which results in genetic changes in all living organisms and this also allows the cosmic rays (ultra violet) to fall directly on the suface of the earth. Moreover the ozone depletion is more towards the pole regions and hence the glaciers and polar ice caps are melting which inturn would result in water scarcity in the near future.
So all that we can do is to plant the trees at high level and reduce the pollution levels. Man would be the first sufferer if he is not going to plant the trees and take care of all other animals. Usage of plastics must be also banned. Then only the earth will be the perfect place to live.

Global warming is the consistent warming of the earths atmosphere over the years. This is resulting in the melting of polar ice and an unusual rise in the ocean water levels.
Its not because the earth is getting closer to the sun or anything. But, ya, u can say that pollution is wearing down the ozone layer.
But I think, this is mainly caused because the heat generated on earth is being obstructed from moving vertically out of earth and instead is extending sideways, spreading the heat internally into all regions of the earth. That is the reason that all countries are concerned not only of themselves but of others also in this fight against global warming.

Global Warming.
An increase in the near surface temperature of the Earth. Global warming has occurred in the distant past as the result of natural influences, but the term is most often used to refer to the warming predicted to occur as a result of increased emissions of greenhouse gases. Scientists generally agree that the Earth's surface has warmed by about 1 degree Fahrenheit in the past 140 years. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently concluded that increased concentrations of greenhouse gases are causing an increase in the Earth's surface temperature and that increased concentrations of sulfate aerosols have led to relative cooling in some regions, generally over and downwind of heavily industrialized areas. Also see Climate Change and Enhanced Greenhouse Effect.
Greenhouse effect:
The greenhouse effect is natural and necessary for life on Earth.
The sun supplies the energy to warm the earth. The atmosphere, which is mostly transparent to the incoming sunlight, absorbs outgoing reflected or internal thermal radiation to keep the earth warmer than it would be otherwise.
This absorbing property of the atmosphere is the greenhouse effect.1 Gases in the atmosphere that absorb infrared radiation, thereby preventing some of the outgoing energy from returning to space, are called greenhouse gases.
Not all gases in the atmosphere absorb outgoing infrared radiation. Nitrogen and oxygen, which make up most of the earth’s atmosphere, have no blocking effect. The gases that absorb the infrared radiation and create the greenhouse effect are mainly water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Water vapor and water in clouds absorb nearly 90% of the infrared radiation, while carbon dioxide, methane, and the other minor greenhouse gases together absorb little more than 10% of the infrared radiation.
Therefore, most of the greenhouse effect is natural and caused by the different forms of water in the atmosphere. However, human activities over the last 100 years, like burning wood, coal, oil, and natural gas, have increased the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by an amount equivalent to a fifty percent increase in carbon dioxide alone. According to some projections, the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere from human activities will be effectively equal to a doubling of CO2 in the next 100 years.
1 The term "greenhouse effect,” coined nearly two centuries ago, is scientifically inaccurate. A greenhouse stays warm because the closed windows prevent the inside air from cooling by circulation; the glass does not absorb outgoing infrared radiation.

Its not earth getting close to the sun but its the polution its not only the wearing away of Ozone layer but more than that the pollution is called as the green house gases which can increase the heat in the Atmospheric temperature and also not only because of the sun but also they will do ontheir own the sun heats increases due to the hole in the Ozone layer above the earth near CUBA

Hello barbee,
well global warming is caused by excessive emission of CO2 and which is in US alone 80,000000 tonnes. It is caused not just by the industries and vehicles even you're refrigerator, you're t.v. and all the electronic appliances produce equal to 1880 tonne per year imagine that. The trees which are the natural filters of CO2 are cut at such an alarming rate that if only people forget religion races country or enemity they can solve the problem and because of this there is a hole in the ozone layer that is the size of AUSTRALIA.
This causes even more wide spread damage as the natural protection from the sun is not there we will get uv and other harmful rays causing cancer and as well as rise in sea levels

There is too many reason for Global warming
1. The Earth and the sun distance become more closer day by day so the result is Evaporate whole the icy mountains result heavy flood in the whole world and change of our Environment.
2. The second reason is due to pollution because of our types of technology like Astronomy , increase in factories, due to disappearance of forests etc.......
to prevent the Global warming in my opinion is plant more trees..... and save our environment.

Ahhh, come on, guys... human activity is definitely affecting current climate conditions. How could it not? Eventually the scales will tip and we WILL find ourselves in the next ice age, which could happen fast. Then what? But before then... any of you coast huggers looking forward to dealing with rising sea levels?
