My daughter,s cat goes potty in the toilet bowl, they did not know that he was capable of doing that. When she went into the bathroom she always found poop in the toilet bowl and she was always blaming her daughter for not flushing it, of course my grandaughter always said it wasn't her so, then she would blame her husband, of course he also said he wasn't the one that did that, until she caught her cat doing poop in the toilet. so the mystery was solved I wonder if someone else knows about other cats that do the same thing.

A very funny and sweet story; your daughter has unkowningly trained and created a very intelligent cat!
Again and in response to another unrelated cat matter -- NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE INTELLIGENGE OF AN ANIMAL!
A tamed animal follows your lead as owner -- it adapts to your ways. Your habits become theirs. A cat, like most animals, easily develops an internal clock when it comes to feeding time. If everyday you feed it at 8 AM, your cat -- even wild ones -- will arrive at that time.
My mother had a cat that did the same as you described, and if the toilet seat was down, her cat would use the bathtub -- perhaps relating poop with water.
Do cats understand the concept of plumbing?...No...But they are capable of learning and understanding via observation and your 'scent' after doing your business, that the toilet..and following your habit...was the right place to do it.
A great shared story and one that might encourage others to bring their kittens into the bathroom to learn our way of doing our, 'business.'
I would be most interested if your daughter's cat stayed in the bathroom with her as a kitten. If so, we as cat lovers can cut the cost of liter from our budget! Your daughter has both a very intelligent cat and one that was taught well! Please feel free to contact me as I would love to further know the details.
Thanks for sharing that story -- it was great. Best wishes.

OH I hope "Minny mouse" watches Seattle's video! What a kick & a half at the end of the day! I had a friend whose cat used the toilet bowl, but I didn't know it was this common. An added plus for the cat that flushes! (They open door knobs, too.) I wish I knew how to keep that video as an attachment. This is the very best CAT-egory to be in! Cat people (99.9%) are so nice & caring & loving & funny!

I once had a neighbor whose 2 cats used the toilet. I had one that used the sink! I've tried to potty train cats by making a small litter box that fit under the seat, but they wouldn't use it without the box.

yeah they sell a clear insert to train your cat to go in the potty. i'm not sure it works real well though.
i had a cat once which i caught going pee in the toilet he still pooped in the liter box though. when i read your post i immediately thought of the movie "meet the parents" wierd, but must be a smart cat and good for her saves money on liter. lol.

You can actually buy books on how to toilet train your kitties. From what I've read, it is a tedious process, but once accomplished it is great! My kitty just passed on a couple of weeks ago, but if I ever have another one, I think I will try it!

You can actually train a cat to do that. I remember seeing a video of how to train a cat to do that on youtube. They have special things you can buy to do that at the pet store.

Hi there...both my cats use the toilet and flush. However, they didn't learn on their own I had to encourage them to learn this. Your daughter's kitty is a smart cookie to figure out how to do this himself.
Here's a video of a kitten learning how to toilet train too: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2647927142627159521&q=toilet+trained+cat

It's pretty easy to train cats to do that. They have a "How To" on this in Maxim magazine, and they've trained a cat to do that in that movie "Meet the Parents."
