Depends on how long you are leaving him. Know that he is in a critical age for socialization, and will probably get into stuff is left out. Could you each take turns coming home for lunch to play with him and let him out? There are lots of doggie daycare places out there and also I know of a few places around KC that actually come to your house to walk the dogs while you are @ work.

A crate is excellent for training a dog, and it's actually good to start this young. Make sure to feed, water, and take it outside before crating the dog for the day. And be sure to get the right size. Because he is young, you can get one with a divider that lets you adjust the size as he gets bigger.
A dog will not use the bathroom in it's "house", but you have to make sure it's not so big that it can just go in one corner and sleep in another. Until it is fully house trained, you have to keep it in a crate that is JUST big enough for it to stand up, turn around, and lay down in. Any bigger and you will have a matted wet mess on your hands when you get home-and he will REALLY not like the crate. He may show a little anxiety about getting crated at first, so let him get used to it before you actually have to crate him. Leave the door open and let him go in and out freely. Put a chew toy inside to give him something to do. Dogs are den animals, so once he is acclimated to it he will actually come to love his own safe little place. I have a maltepoo and I got a good sized one with a divider at petco.com for about $70.00.

The crate is an excellent suggestion. You also might like to try leaving a radio on, not loud or anything, just so the puppy can hear voices or music. I would put some little toys in the crate with him, plus perhaps a t-shirt that you've worn. They really love the scent of their "people."
Hope this helps.

don't leave it alone for too long, but you should put him in a cage with a blanket and toys. when you get home make sure to give him a lot of attention.

I would keep him in a cage till he is house broke, and always leave a radio or tv on so he doesn't think he is home alone.

just put him in a kennel carrier while your gone, make sure it has plenty of room, water and food and be sure its clean, it will be fine while your gone, when you come back you put it on a lease and take it for a walk while you give it head rubs!

It will be good alone in a crate. That way it won't mess on your carpet or tear stuff up.

IMO you should get a crate and begin training him to stay in it.
They crate train pretty easy at that age.
