To take a picture from the curb or street is one thing but to walk onto someones property is trespassing. A homeowner or neighbor may or may not stop and ask why you are taking pictures. The fact of the matter is, it's perfectly legal and not rude. I would be flattered too if a stranger liked my yard. Nah, don't bother walking up to the door and asking for permission if you aren't setting foot on the property. that said, if you want to take a picture IN their yard, you could be slapped with Illegal Trespassing if the homeowner(s) or neighbor(s) report you. Make sure you have permission.

Of course if you ask first and gives you his permission. Personally, I would be honored if someone used my yard as a backdrop. It mean's someone other then myself respects my property. However, not so many people feel this way. Some are very picky and even anal about people using their yard or even stepping on their property. It's not you, but you have to respect their wishes. If it's too much of an issue just find another yard.

I don't think that's rude at all. If someone was to knock on my door and explain the situation I too would feel privileged that someone thought my yard looked nice enough to be the background for such an important memory.
If the person's not home though I would wait.

I personally would not find it rude, I like you would be flattered that they enjoyed the hard work i put into it. However, we live in a society full of idiots, some may be offended. Just go for it, the worst that can happen is they can say no. Just make sure you don't go alone to ask, be safe. Good luck and God bless*

I think you're right---if you are polite and say something like "your yard is just so lovely...." then, really, what's the harm? If they say no, they say no.....but it's not like you were rude or pushy.
It possibly also depends on how long you plan on being there and the time of day, etc. As long as you work around their schedule, I really don't see the harm is asking. I'd be flattered. (Having said all that---I do understand that it embarrasses your daugher---teenagers are just like that! Don't worry though--she'll be happy to have the lovely senior photos in years to come!)

i think the point is that you would be ASKING the owners of the yards. if they will allow you to take the photos, they will probably be flattered and tickled that you noticed their yard and that they can help out. if someone thinks its rude, all they have to say is "No." then you move on. i say go for it. i wouldn't be offended. and, like i said: just be polite when you ask and if someone is offended they will tell u!

Depends whether you have a good relationship with the person who owns the yard or not. If you are related to the person who owns it, then it's not rude if you ask and schedule it in advance, but if it's some random person you've never met, might as well NOT ask, as they might think you're weird.

no it would not be rude if you ask permission. In fact, many people would be honoured that you think their yard is worthy of being a background for your daughters pics.

no, it's not rude to ask. I've walked through neighborhoods just to take pictures of peoples flower gardens, yes i would ask and they were thrilled, so if i were you, go ahead and ask, you'll make someones day by using their yard for a back ground. Good Luck. : )
