My parakeet has diarrhea and seems very tired. I bought some pills to put in his water and am trying to get him to drink it. His poop isnt as watery now but is still discolored. What are the chances he survives if i dont take him to a vet and he doesnt really drink the water? can he get over it on his own?

What pills are you giving him?

Did you know that if a bird doesn't poop for a long time and suddenly releases that you get a very watery mixture? Are you sure what you saw was diarrhea, especially now that it is formed? What does "discolored" mean? Can you describe it?

For safety sake, take your little friend to an avian vet.

ADDITIONAL COMMENT:
Not good! Brown could mean blood in the stool; I think your friend needs to see a vet ASAP! Remember, to protect themselves in the wild, birds do not show symptoms of illness until they are very sick.

Good luck to you and your friend. Please come back and let us know how he is doing and what the vet found.

My parkeet was like that for a little while because she ate some stuff she found and got sick. I gave her meds that I got at the store for her food and water. She is better now and that was a few months ago... but I think you should take him to the vet or call one and get their oppinion they will have the best anwser it all matters what is wrong with him.. so it is best to at least call a vet.

You should take him to a good avian vet. Birds usually don't show signs of being sick until their really bad ,because in the wild if your sick and another animal knows it, you're history. My best advice is not to try to treat him yourself.

Please take him to the vet! If your dog or cat was sick would you just give it store bought medicine and hope for the best? And remember, birds hide their sickness much better the other animals and don't' show symptoms till it's really bad.
