While I'm from far North of the border please visit petfinder.org
It's a site that searches your area, including all shelters listing age, breed and any other details to adopt.
You can search via breed, age etc. all in your area. There are plenty of puppies and adult dogs a like looking for a home. Don't forget that adult dogs are usually well trained, know commands and are just as loving and caring as if you raised them from a pup. They are usual thankful for new homes.
And good for you for adopting! It makes me so happy to know that not everyone is buying from breeders.
Good luck on your pup search! :)

Most animal shelters usually do have puppies. If you are not just looking for one particular kind, he should be able to find one. He just needs to get a list of the shelters and go looking. Hope you are able to find a cute little pup to love. He needs to check with them however to see if they will adopt to out of area family.

Where can I find...
www.petfinder.com
You type in your zip code, the breed of dog you want, and the age preference and it gives you tons of choices.
In all likelihood, there will be an adoption fee that covers the cost of the shots, food, and other medical attention that he got while in the shelters care. Remember that even if you get a dog for an inexpensive price you will still have to pay for food and vet care.

As far as I know, there's an organization on Erie Ave. called the Women's S. P. C. A. I know they have animals for adoption, but I don't know about puppies. If they have no puppies, maybe they can guide you to a shelter that does have them.
Good Luck.
