I thought it was SO unfair. BJ should have one. He did so good in the first two rounds and Hughes is acting all cocky because he did good in THE LAST ROUND. I hope he loses to St.Pierre because he needs one good slap in his head.

I agree with you completely. BJ dominated Hughes so much it HAD to be a shock to Mr. H. Matt usually picks up his opponant and slams them to the mat on the other side of the Octagon. But no matter HOW hard he tried, he couldn't manhandle Penn.

While it looked like BJ just ran out of steam in the 3rd round, it has been documented in a number of places that what really happened was that his ribs had separated. He said he knew he couldn't just "give up", but he couldn't take any blows to the ribs for obvious reasons. He immediately tried to get Hughes into a submission hold. Had it not been for the bell/time limit, I truly believe Hughes would have tapped out to Penn in the 2nd round.

FYI, BJ says he would love to come back to the UFC again and Dana White has invited him back sometime in 2007, once he completely heals up.

I'd love to see another Penn/Hughes fight.

And as for the upcoming Hughes/St. Pierre fight, well, I'm not too sure that St. Pierre will have the key to putting Hughes away. We can only hope so though because, as you stated, Hughes is getting just a bit cocky lately.

It'll be interesting. I'll be watching, THAT'S for sure.

Um it's not unfair when Penn loses by TKO. It's only unfair when somebody clearly wins a fight and the judges decide differently. Penn definetly won the 1st 2 rounds but in the 3rd, Hughes had him completely pinned and was pounding away with rights to the face. Penn couldn't get out of the hold or even move so Big John called the fight. There's nothing unfair there.

And to agree (sorta) with you. I think GSP has a damn good chance of winning this Saturday.

BJ had Hughes in really bad shape at the end of the 2nd rd. He did NOT lose due to him being out of shape this time though that has been the case in the past. It has been documented that he seperated his ribs when reversing to Hughes back which made it very difficult for him to breath. Had that not happened we are not sure what would have happened but if you take how the first 2 rds went then you had to feel good for BJ in the rest of the fight. For the record I will say Hughes over GSP.

I think BJ Penn was unprepared for this fight (somewhat). He came out strong, but got gassed out too quickly. I personally feel that it was a great fight and I was nervous that Matt would lose, it was very close. I really like Matt Hughes though, I think he's an excellent and talented fighter. Now that BJ Penn has lost his past 2 fights, I think he needs to hit the gym and train harder (and put the ego back in his pocket).

I appreciate B.J. Penn. he's a problematic guy and intensely experienced, yet I supply the part to Matt Hughes. Hughes has been scuffling with in many cases hostile to problematic competition and has massively better his regularly occurring skills when you consider that his first wrestle with Penn. Hughes is arguably the most valuable UFC fighter in his weight classification. could be a competent wrestle and that i'd be observing Saturday nighttime!

BJ could have won that fight, i'm not sure if he got injured during the fight or if he just got tired, but BJ was the better striker and jiu jitsu fighter. BJ did a great job of avoiding the takedowns early in the fight, but i still think Matt Hughes is a great fighter. I'm going for GSP because he's just an awesome fighter.

BJ Penn made matt Hughes looked sorry, I couldn't believe how easy he was whoopin' on Hughes the first 2 rounds.

Before the fight, I noticed that BJ Penn was expending all his energy making all those funny looking faces, quick jerky-jerk moves with his arms and shoulders, and little kicks here and there in there in his corner. I think he wasted so much energy before the actual fight, and ofcourse his conditioning.

I see Hughes dippin' GSP

BJ clearly was the superior fighter that night. TECHNICALLY. But it was really clear that BJ just didn't have the cardio conditioning necessary to go up against Matt Hughes. Matt was just in super condition and BJ was just completely gassed out and couldn't hang with Matt.

If BJ had 20 more seconds in the 2nd round, he would have beat Matt and been the new champ.

Seriously doubt that GSP will beat Matt Saturday.

Matt had better conditioning than BJ Penn and he took advantage of it. I guess I am the only guy who wants Hughes and Sylvia to still have their belts.

Yeah BJ seemed to be doing well, but fact is Matt still won, and that says alot especially against a fighter like BJ.

I'll be pulling for GSP this weekend he's great
