My parents paid for my entire wedding in 2005 and they are doing the same for my sister in 2007. The wedding was more than $30,000, so I'm a ridulously lucky person who had a spectacular wedding.
Don't hate me.
Just so you know, the average wedding in America has 186 guests and costs a little more that $18,000. I am planning weddings right now with budgets from $5000 to $20,000 and everywhere inbetween.

I'm getting married in June and my parents are definitely giving me $3,000 because that's how much my sisters wedding cost (8 years ago) and their going to give us whatever else they can. My wedding is going to cost us probably around $15,000 though. But whatever, I don't care, they lost everything during Hurricane Rita last year though so I'm not expecting much more. But that doesn't bother me. Plus my two little sisters are in the wedding and they are going to have to buy their dresses. But I have their support and that's what really matters. My fiancee's parents are also giving us $1000 more as a gift rather than an actual donation I guess you could say. And they are paying for the rehearsal dinner. His parents paid for their own wedding and they basically feel that we should too.And everything else is up to us. But like I said I don't mind! It's actually kind of better than I am paying for more then half of the wedding because you know how sometimes fights arise because you want something your way but your parents are paying. Well now everything WILL be my way! lol

My parents gave me nothing at all (my mom passed away). My fiance's mom is doing the decorations and flowers herself.
I think that the reason why we wont ask for money from anyone else because it is our duty to pay for it. Since we are paying for it, we have been extremely thrifty and found ways to cut corners, which I am sure some people wont do. We believe the wedding is celebrating a union between us and God, not us and the wallet.
My whole wedding is WAY under 5k, and has already covered 90% of things. It is going to be very gorgeous, and I didnt skimp on anything.
Not to say any extra money wouldnt help though!!!

As the average cost of a wedding inceases (which is now about 26-27 thousand), so does the number of people paying for it.
In fact, The American Wedding Study by the Fairchild Bridal Group says that in over half of today's weddings - more than one party contributes
Paying for our wedding was definitely a group effort. My parents paid for the reception (about 20 thousand), my husband's parents paid for the rehearsal dinner and wedding favors (about 6 thousand), and my husband and I paid for all the vendors (about 15 thousand).

My mom worked her butt off and I had a beautiful wedding for 5K. Between 5 and 10 is decent. I have never understood these grand elaborate 30 and 40K weddings. I'm sorry, I'm a woman and love beautiful things but it's just one day for crying out loud, not even a full day!

My mother is only giving me $5,000 to spend on the wedding. Admittingly I'm being bratty, but I wish it were more as I'm an only child and my parents make a good 6 figure income. I'm grateful that they are doing anything though, so I don't complain too loudly, it's making me more creative.

I am getting married in June and my parents are planning on giving me a little over a thousand...and his parents are paying even less. We are definitly becoming more creative in ways to get cheap things! have friends do your hair, we are getting a jukebox instead of a dj or a live band, its less than $200 for the night...and we are having it at his church so its cheaper...you just gotta meet people who know people and it gets cheaper every time...

I don't expect anything from my parents. But it turned out that my mother paid for the documents I need (and that cost quite lot for her standard), but my father doesn't pay anything.
It doesn't matter, I'm more happy and proud of it, independence feeling.

For all the children, they paid for half the reception food. We were six kids, so they had to come up with a plan to make it equal.

My father gave me a choice...30k for a house down-payment or 30k for a wedding. I chose the house and haven't looked back since...it'll pay off more in the end!!
