Girls can have lots of affection and care for other girls and still be considered straight. But I've noticed that whenever a boy has a lot of affection for and cares a lot about another guy, he is usually considered gay, even though I know he probably isn't. Basically, girls can have girlfriends without being seeen as a lesbian, but guys can't have "boyfriends" without being seen as gay. Why is it like this? Is the standard for male heterosexuality so rigid that they have to devote all of their emotions toward females in order to avoid being stereotyped as homosexual?
