I will be getting married at City Hall but we're having a small party afterwards (actually 2 weeks later due to conflicting dates). How should I write the invitation. I don't want to sound so formal.

You can do something like this:

BRIDE
and
GROOM
are happy to announce
their marriage
on DAY
YEAR
CITY, STATE

Please join them
for a celebration
on DAY
YEAR
TIME
LOCATION
CITY, STATE

For other options, I like http://www.verseit.com Select Verse It, weddings, and post-wedding reception.

i'd make 2 diverse invites. One invite asks human beings to attend the marriage, then mentions reception to stick to and the main factors. the different invites human beings to rejoice your wedding ceremony at a reception, then provides the main factors.

After the actual date of the wedding, it is no longer called a reception, just a party in your honor...

Mr. and Mrs. Steven Michael Vadnais - bride's parents (usually)
request the pleasure of your company
at a party in honor of - not reception
Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Matthew Pratt - you and your husband
Saturday, the third of March - date
at eight o’clock - time
1234 Ocean View Highway - location address
San Diego, California - city/state

Hope this helps!

If it'snto formal, a hand written note card is perfect. Just write: "We tied the knot, and we want to celebrate:) Join us for a small dinner reception on DATE at LOCATION."

Check out some of the wedding invitation catalogs/websites. If you look at the pictures you'll get ideas on how to word. Check out their collections for Vegas weddings....some of them have cute little poems/wording you can use. Websites like: theknot.com and weddingchannel.com always have invite wording articles. Click on the link below. Hope it helps.
