i am a southern girl but i have just spent the weekend in Manchester and found them to be some of the nicest people i have ever met...i was so impressed that i plan to go back as soon as my wallet allows me to,lol(i have been up north several times and thinking about it i dont think ive ever encountered much but friendliness)....on the train on the way back a southern woman was really rude to me and it got me to thinking and i was quite surprised to find that on the whole i think northerners are much friendlier than southerners...what do you think....yes i know im generalising...yes i know im going to be insulted...i dont really care...just asking opinions...

ape2016...i am thinking a little along your lines ...i think here in the south people seem to be much more money and business orientated...well the south east anyways...west always tends to be a little more relaxed for some strange reason...

In all the travels I have done, I've ALWAYS had good encounters with the Brits either at the North or South.

Ah the good ol' north/south divide.... Nothing better than a good ol' fashioned argument!
I'm a southerner myself so I've got to say it's the Southerners every time! (esp south west!)
But i do know what you mean about northerners, or at least the ones i have met anyway. Not really a bad word to say!

definitly northerners being one myself and been in south as a visitor quite a bit , my bro in law a southerner nice guy but something different than our north men here , we are more friendly and help each other more, think we have better sense of humour and are more polite to each other and more of a caring sort than the southerners are !! the south is a nicer place to visit though. you get the good with the bad everywhere.

I'm a southerner living in the north. Let me tell you the northerner's are friendlier by far. Most southerner's wouldn't p**s on you if you were on fire. On the flip side there are a good amount of northern s**ts.

I don't think it's North v South, more London v the rest, you get equally lovely people from the South West, it's just when you get towards London, people can appear to lose perspective of what's truly important, Same in the US with NY and LA, the locals seem to think that because the reside in this maelstrom of a sprawling metropolis, they have a "get out of gaol free" card that permits them to brush people's feelings off because they are too important, or too busy or too pressured to be bothered.

I have lived all over and in very general terms I feel southerners are more polite and friendly. Also, life often seems more hurried in the north, which could be mistaken as abrupt and unfriendly. If you really want to meet very cool and friendly Americans try Hawaii or Alaska.

Southerners by a long way. I know I live in New York and I lived in Georgia for five years. They are the ones that are most likely to shoot first and ask questions second.

northerners are more friendly than sothereners. FACT!!!! sorry i know you are a southerner and i expect you are yourself a really nice person but in general people in the north are more chilled out and arent stressed out by the rat races in London etc... and so as a result have a more optimistic outlook- even when we are constantly undermined by our southern counterparts. Fact, 8/10 people who visit the north, particularly the rural areas, stay to live in the north!!!!
