But there are many ranks, and the larger the department the more ranks.

Also in larger departments the fire chief is a fairly political one, hired or appointed by the mayor, city council or some other political body. So you will need all sorts of fire training that you would have gotten though the years working your way up.

contact your local community college for classes pertaining to fire safety. There are several areas that you will need to be trained in first. If your not already, join a local vol fire dept. Make sure you can handle the stress.
