I would get a second opinion. There is help out there for you, even if it's not meds. Try therapy, one on one and group. Don't give up. Definitely go to another doctor and Stop cutting yourself!

You need to get help. Meds take a while to kick in.. sometimes 6 weeks or more. Failing that change your med. Cytalopram.. 60mg/day works for my g/f who has the same prob. See your GP..insist on a referral to a Psychiatrist. If you can't face your job.. leave! Go on DLA- you sound as if you would qualify for a high rate. Cutting up is just your way of showing people you hurt inside..makes it visible. You are not alone, and there are very many sympathetic people out there to help you. The most scary thing about mental illness is you can't see a cause, there's not an experience you can point to that's causing your depression, there's not a part of your body you can say is damaged or broken. I would advise you to remove youself from the environment which is distressing you, but avoid being on your own. Take care!

Hi there, Is my first reaction and secondly How you doing? Having this type of question posted on a question board leaves you wide open to all sorts of answers and answers that inevitably will affect you.
In a short period of time during 2005 I myself were subject to a couple of near misses with my life and ended up in hospital on both occasions, spending several weeks in medical care. Although I felt really sorry for myself I also realised that there were people worse off than myself and kept plodding on and each day got better and still gets better.
I would advise that you speak to someone on a more professional level like your doctor or even a quick call to that samaritans. Remember that the first step is always the hardest and there is always help out there in todays society. whatever your problem.
Take Care
Andy

Well... I don't advocate medication at all. You should definately become physically active, if you're not. The endorphins releases during excercise are a natural picker-upper. The better shape you're in, the better you feel mentally and physically. Healthy body, healthy mind, as they say. I used to go through depression until I lost lots of weight and got healthy.

I'd say if you do any hard drugs, you should stop. That pretty much includes everything, including booze. Marijuana isn't actually so bad.

Also, figure out what in your life pisses you off or makes you sad, and try to fix that part of your life. Hit me up on messenger if you ever need to talk.

WOW, thats some LOW self esteem right there.

Focus on the good things in your life (yes... there are !!) and try to think about those things when people or situations get you down.

I sense a problem with self expression, your question seems to blurt it all out at once, and where as thats a good thing, maybe you could try some other avenues too, for venting what I feel could be frustration in your life. art, exersize, Yoga, and dancing are all good forms of controlled pressure release.

Be carefull whatever you do, also, next visit to the GP, ask for councelling not more pills.

Get back down the doctors. See a different GP. Don't let them brush you off, you need different meds and maybe a referral to a counsellor. It would probably do you good to have a break from work - ask your doc about a sick note. Theres no point ignoring it, you'll just feel worse.

It's rubbish that there's nothing they can do for you, It took quite a few lots of medication until my doctors found one that suits me. Go back to your gp, if s/he won't listen go to another. You have a right to be listened to and medication if it will work. I understand what a "release" you get from self-harming as I do it. Maybe get out from work for a week or two, as it's definately not helping. Maybe you could book it off as a holiday or if not get a doctor to give you a sick note.

Sweetie, I think that you need to get a second opinion.
Have you been to counselling? Perhaps you would benefit from some cognitive behavioural therapy, and some time away from work if this is possible.
I know it's not easy, but you will get through this and you will be strong enough to cope with the things that you have to go through.

go back to the doctors talk to them and ask for a referral for a psychologist, there could be quite a few different reasons why you feel like this but only someone with dedicated training in psychology can help make any kind of diagnosis, i mean you wouldn't call a plumber to deal with a blown fuse would you? it's the same with doctors you dont go to the G.P for mental health advice only referrals.
