I have two female cats, one black and white(salem), and the other solid black (sabina). Salem is my baby, anyway I recently brought home a Male Kitten, someone had thrown out at the park, I bathed him and fed him and I even introduced him to the other cats, and at first the females were really friendly but the longer he stayed, Salem started Hissing at me and clawing at me. So I was wondering if all cats are like that? Just Naturally Jealous and Grudge holders.

Sorry, Kiwi & Skorpian, but "spraying water" or "flicking" on the nose will just make matters worse. She apparently needs even more love & affection from you, not punishing. With Salem, it could be as simple as feeling out of sorts because another cat has been added to the "family," & it's quite possible she may NEVER like him. She's looking to you to make things "normal" again. Cats are NOT jealous by nature. Of course they can be territorial, & she may just need a bit MORE attention than Sabina. Hey, cats don't hold "grudges," either. That's a "people" thing. It's possible she may never accept the male, just as I suspect there are people you'd as soon not be around, but try very hard to spend time with her, & usually, cats find their own way to make adjustments--whatever they are! I do think it's interesting, (the psychology of cats!) that she's hissing at YOU unless, as I said, she wants some "special" time with you. How does she treat the male cat???? That should tell you something.

I don't know about all cats but my two are very similar. I have 2 tonkinese cats. a girl who is 8 ish and a boy who is almost 6 years old. We recently had to cat sit for some friends while they honeymooned. The first day or so it was all fun and games a little cautious curiosity but no ill feelings. Then my husband started to pay a little more attention to the other cat while i was at work. All of a sudden this OTHER animal in the house was hissed at and shunned by our cats. I have to say though that both our cats are very attached to their dad (my husband) they get jealous of each other and even of me. I can be just giving my husband a kiss goodbye and the girl cat will bite me on the ankle or start crying, rolling on the ground being cute or even climbing his leg. It's just one kiss!!
So be glad the cats are only jealous of the kitten.
Anyway i don't know about all cats but that is what my two are like. Very jealous and protective when it comes to their Dad.

Cats are very territorial inspite of their vendors. Cats take approximately 2 weeks to settle right into a clean enviroment your old cat won't take kindly to this. They quickly cool down yet their character adjustments some what. Cats love their human mothers and dads.

Cats will definitely compete for attention, especially if the other cat is of a different gender. Some cats don't care, some cats do, much like humans.

Are you feeding them separately? Or at different times? You need to ensure that activities like that are treated equally.

ok. yes all cats..well most cats get jealous, but it usually goes away..in time. i had a mean cat and i decided to also get a lovable new kitten for him to play with, for about two months my cat realized the other cat was staying so he tryes hurting him, but i always got on to him. now he is fine having another cat in the house to play with and he's even become a nice lovable cat!
