On my block there are many homes with Jewish families; now when I walk without my pup they are all fine. As soon as my year old Golden is next to me they bolt as if there is a plague comming, I have noticed it with other people that have dogs of different sizes on my block and in other areas I am just confused as to why. I can understand that some may have had a bad experiance but not all of them.

Well I have to agree with you to a point, I have a Jewish father-in-law that has two dogs one Golden and a Chocolate Lab, he loves them greatly, I asked him the question and it is not all Jewish people, but he said most Hasidic Jews consider them to be unclean and that they run to prevent an unsanitary state. He knows this because his family condemed him when he bought his first dog and no one woud ever come visit. The people you see are they Hasidic? If so that is your answer. On another note you should choose words carefully on here it seems that you may have unintensionaly fired some people up.

Some of the ultra-orthodox Jews (very few of them, actually) do not have dogs in their houses for religious matters, as one source in the Jewish tradition (among many others who state differently) claim that dogs are despised.
Furthermore, these ultra-orthodox groups preserve every piece of traditional life (sort of like the Amish), and live by the exilic laws of their countries of origin in Europe, on which Jews were not allowed to have pets.
Dogs may sometime raise the association of Nazis and drunken gentiles during pogroms, as trained and violent dogs were one of the most popular weapons against Jews in Old Europe.

Other than these small groups of Jews who are afraid of dogs for these reasons, most of us have no problems with dogs, or animals in general at all.

it is not nice of you to generalize and put in print something not true, absolutely not true. there are certainly some Jews who don't like dogs but most of them do love them. during the Israel-Haifa bombardment -- there were tons of dog stories -- some good, some not so good. but that proves Jews keep dogs in their homes. once you know this as a fact -- now back to your question of fear -- some fear, others do not fear. as simple as that. I have a dog and I fear some larger dogs -- yes, my dog has been attacked so -- experience and past background do play a role. you should be right to get confused...because humans (not only Jews) react differently to different situations. you happen to live in a neighborhood where there are lots of kids and it is normal -- their suspicion -- a good suggestion to you is to move to a neighborhood where there are lots of dogs -- specially near an area where there is a dog park. you will feel safer and more welcome with your dog. hope it helps...

Maybe they think they are "the chosen ones" cause they taste good. What is your problem, fool??? Oh, by the way, have you watched AKC dog shows? Any dog shows? Lots of Jewish owners, nobody's running.

Do you really think that? That all Jewish people are afraid of large dogs? How odd.
